Of course the RATS will pick an anti-American commie for the court, but Souter was already far left, so the damage will be minimized. Maybe the RATS will pick one of the talking head law profs they always use on TV, and he'll get a chance to show how stupid he really is.

What did anyone expect? No surprise here. The daily destruction of the US marches on with no shots fired.

Doesn’t really matter how “left” the replacement is; they still only get one vote.

Finding someone to the left of Souter will be a trick (thanks a lot GHWB), but B-HO will get it done.

Remember being a lawyer is not a prerequisite to being a member of the Supreme Court.

Look for him to nominate someone on the left fringe.

Yes, I agree that you can’t go too much further left than Souter.

OTOH Obama could pick someone who is going to be on the court for the next 40 years.

Replacing left wing moonbat Souter with another left wing moonbat is a net gain of 0 for Obama.

A left winger that gives crazy touchy feely opinions will give plenty of ammunition when it’s our turn again as to why we want someone that will just follow the law.

Souter’s replacement will NOT shift the ideology of the court. He has been consistently liberal since appointment. Roberts (Chief Justice), Scalia, Thomas and Alito are consistently conservative. The rest are liberal with Kennedy being the latest “swing” vote going both ways.

I think that Kennedy will see how dis-tasteful Obambi’s USSC picks are and THAT will DRIVE him to the right with Alito, Roberts, Thomas and Scalia.

Oh yeah? Think about Harold Koh, Mr. We-Should-Adopt-International-Law-and-Forget-the-Constitution; Think about one of BO’s Raza lawyer friends, such as Thomas Saenz. Think about the judicial equivalent of the HHS secretary. Think about Mr. Open Borders, there should be no limits on immigration to the U.S. Alex Aleinikoff, dean of Georgetown Law, who was Doris Meissner’s hatchet person when she ran INS and has been making bad immigration policy proposals ever since. Guy couldn’t be more of a communist if he had a hammer and sickle tattooed on his forehead. This could get much, much worse and we will have only the moderate Dems standing between us and the total surrender of our national sovereignty, a Marxist Internationalist on the Supreme Court.

That’s to be expected.

They still only get one vote.

Hopefully the nominee is not particularly “youthful”.

No surprises here. Don’t know if McCain would’ve done any better.

That’s the problem...how do anything but constitutional judges ever even get on the bench?

What is the job discription?

I don’t agree with this. Souter represented the far left of judicial thinking already. It would be difficult to find a justice who votes more reliably wrong than Souter.

Just come up with the most absurd nominee possible, and you’ll probably be right on the money.

For example: Paul Begala.
