Red Tail Escorts Air Force One Over Lady Liberty & Ground Zero
Perfunction ^ | April 28, 2009 | Mustang 0302

Commenter Mustang 0302 offers the most interesting theory of the day over at Just One Minute:

Connecting some dots, here.

At least one of the escorting F-16s was from the Alabama ANG, Red Tail and all.

Could this photo op mission have any particular connection to A NEW MOVIE due out this year?

Could that connection explain the WHMO's eagerness to get some current glamour shots of BHO's A/C, escorted by the descendants of the Tuskegee Airmen, while flathatting over "the target formerly known as Ground Zero"?

Just imagine the powerful, beautiful imagery of these aircraft during this mission, accompanied by a stirring soundtrack, playing over the closing credits, or released as publicity stills or fundraising fodder - "Yes, America, sleep well...BHO's got you covered."

Well, minus the terrified, fleeing citizens on the ground, of course. Ooops. Caldera, you take this one.

"Mission Accomplished", indeed.

Naw, I'll bet I'm wrong. Coincidences, all...surely.

On the other hand this shows that those who think terrorism is no longer a big issue should see those tapes of fleeing and frightened citizens, yesterday

Somehow, I think this will be the reverse of what you hope. It will be somehow blamed on the previous administration. In fact, it has already started. (e.g., Schumer’s declaration that the former FAA head, a Bush appointee, really is responsible because he/she screwed up things so bad).

I have a very big problem using Air Force One for a commercial venture.

I don’t think people will buy it on this one

Maybe so. At least, they won’t forget for a while.

Are they the only ones with red tails on their F-16’s?

I believe that's true (though I'm hardly an authority).

One wonders:

Who was on board OUR Air Force One? (and why not make the boarding list public?)

At what level did this flyover/photo shoot originate? (certainly above the pay grade of the White House Military Officer, I would think.)

You know that Newsbusters weekly vidcast?? Someone needs to start a daily one. It could be totally satirical like SNL or Mad-TV might do. I think it would be pretty popular pretty quickly.

If the commercial venture pays for costs, are you OK with that? Just curious.

I guess I am OK with things like using military equipment in movies about our military. reimbursing costs and giving proper credit, etc. are expected.

Campaign contributors and CAIR plus Ayers and Rev Wright... were all on the plane in my mind, being rewarded with a wet dream, pretending to be suicide bombers.

just my thought... until a passenger manifest is released

Did anyone really expect anything else from the empty suits team?

Well, they certainly deserve better than that HBO abortion with Lawrence Fishburne.

That one of two planes dedicated to protecting, evacuating the president and successors is suddenly out of commission because of a commercial venture, you can bet your life that I am opposed to the any such thing.

Good point. This is not just some Humvee we are talking about. I concede you the point and am reporting to the nearest water-boarding facility for "Conservative Retraining".

Red Tails (2009)

The story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during World War II.

Makes sense, no?

Occum's Razor and all that.

If this WAS the rationale for a joint AF-1/F-16 flyover, why not just 'fess up?

Why use a modern AF1 for a movie that is suppose take place during WW2?

That is what does not make sense, even if they did it for a promo movie commercial.

Have to admit I heard a former agent discussing the extent of contingency planning. He was sure that this could not have happened without the president himself giving approval

What a foolish foolish man. But we knew O was an incompetent boob.

The agent spoke of dirty bombs, nuclear attacks, etc Any number of possibilities that would require all the assets to be ready within a moment’s notice.

Red tail P-51D (flown by WWII heros) ---->

Red tail F-16 (flown by present-day ANG heros) ---->

AF-1 (heroic commander-in-chief)

...queue stirring music as AF-1 circles Lady Liberty with F-16 in tow.... roll credits .... fade to black

Consider using President Obama to deliver a short stem-winder on patriotism, thus riveting theatergoers to their seats as the lights come up.

(Hey, I'm no Spike Lee, but it COULD happen like this.)

I don't think you denigrated anyone...and your assessment is dead on. Part of the reason I moved...it was sad to see the idiots post on street corners "9/11 was an inside job"...and 8 years on and they still have yet to build a DARN thing on the site. Meanwhile, the Pentagon's completely rebuilt. Explain that one to me?

So THEIR prez scared the hell out of the poor dears...to hell with 'em. I do not live there any more and I don't care. So, when they do get hit again, I'll simply ask "Think this was an inside job too?" as we save them from themselves?

For this to be a photography mission, the F-16 would need to be a two seat variant (D or F model). Can anyone confirm that this Red Tail was a two seater? I have not been able to find a good enough photo yet to tell if it was.
