Five years ago today: Remembering Pat Tillman

Local Phoenix take on Pat Tillman's life and heroism. Tillman is one of the few people who I consider personal heroes. His memory is worth honoring - check it out.

Tillman, you will recall, performed the unthinkable for a professional athlete in the prime of his career. Shortly after the events of 9/11, Tillman walked away from a three-year, $3.6 million deal with the Cardinals to join the Army Rangers.

But money never was Tillman's motivation. Remember, he turned down a three-year, $9 million contract to leave Phoenix for the St. Louis Rams in 2000. And this was while the Cardinals still played in the outdoor misery that was Sun Devil Stadium on a Sunday afternoon.

"You know, typically, when somebody dies, people come around and tell stories about what a good person he or she was," Chris declared. "But I will say this: Of all the recollections I heard that day and ever since, not one story about Pat was, or has been, embellished. Not one.

"I'm telling you, Pat was one great guy. He believed in a handshake. He believed in the values from yesteryear. He was just a hard-working dude who 'got it.' He was always led by his convictions..."

Pat was FIT, dedicated, and heroic! And his talents were all WASTED because someone was carelessly negligent.

Tillman also had a huge ego, which might not have served him well in the Rangers. I have suspected he did something stupid that cost him his life, but the Army wanted to make him out to be hero for public relations reasons.

As much as people might not like to hear it, that someone was most likely Pat Tillman

There is lots of scuttlebutt that Tillman was a real ego freak, often wanting to lead, but no knowing how to do so. He also wanted things his way, but he wasn’t in charge. His books and notes talk a lot about ‘blood for oil’ and ‘propaganda’, ‘illegal war’, etc... There’s one opinion that he got himself killed because of his own negligence. There’s a newer conspiracy theory that ‘he knew something and was silenced.’ I think the DOD used his death and the Jessica Lynch rescue as moral boosting propaganda for sure. They mislead his family and the nation, as well as mislead the nation about Jessica. I still have to say, no matter what, Tillman dropped millions of dollars to go get OBL - more than many many many people would ever do. He also paid for it with his life, no matter if it was fratricide because of his incompetence or someone else’s - He paid the highest of prices.

Tillman was planning a Cindy Sheehan type of media crusade when he returned to the states. He was a Noam Chomsky disciple, most likely radicalized by his brother. And he intended to do the country and the war effort great harm when he got home.

I suspect that was a factor in his demise.

Would such activities nullify the service he would have done for our country in Iraq and Afghanistan, especially for his inspirational story of leaving the NFL to serve our country? If only more HollyWEIRD dummycrats would take a page from his book like the good ol’ stars who served in WWII...

Working with Noam Chomsky and other radical America-hating communists to undermine the mission, bring harm to the men he served with and damage the nation he took an oath to serve? Yes, it certainly would in my mind.

No I’m talking about the work he did in Iraq fighting for freedom. How many insurgents did he kill, how many men did he save while in the line of duty?

I have no idea. How many are required to forgive future acts of treason?
