PALO ALTO, Calif.--The following is a statement from Yvonne Hunt, director Social Investment at HP:

“HP is very pleased that President Barack Obama has signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, a law designed to encourage volunteerism in the United States. The House of Representatives and the Senate should also be congratulated for passing the bill and fostering community service.

“The Serve America Act will encourage many Americans to contribute to their communities through service. It provides scholarships to retirees who volunteer; expands the kinds of activities eligible under the AmeriCorps program; and calls for an additional 250,000 participants in AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps).

“At HP, our goal has always been to live up to our responsibility to society by being an economic, intellectual and social asset to each community in which we do business. We’ve been working to place a number of our own retirees in the Silicon Valley Encore Fellows program through our relationship with Civic Ventures, where they can put the skills and experience they’ve acquired to work in the community. We fully support the Serve America Act and look forward to its positive effect across the country.”

This REALLY sucks! Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard were not lefties. They created great products, a great company and created a lot of jobs. I refuse to buy Dell as Dell is in business deals with Soros. This stinks because I need to but a few computers.

...Acer. It’s cheap and runs beautifully! My laptop cost $400 last year.

One of the problems with allowing leftism to work as a ratchet. It grows under Democrats and the Republicans are happy to keep it the same size or allow it grow just a little instead of ripping it out by its roots. Americorps shouldn't have survived 8 years of Bush and almost that much of Republican control of Congress.

I bought a couple of Asus laptops over the past year and was very pleased. A good place to check them out is at newegg.com.

I was never the biggest HP fan when it came to PCs and laptops but liked their printers. The Dell/Soros connection is one I didn't know of and I rather liked Dell stuff. I will do my best to avoid both of them.

I think Acer just bought out Gateway. Seems they are going well. I have owned a few Acers and they are not bad.

I have nothing against them. I suggested a look at Asus because they aren't as well known in the laptop arena. They make a ton of motherboards, though, and are thereby a large player in the PC market.

Dell, Soros, John Paulson and Chris Flowers bought IndyMac bank a few months ago. This is probably after Soros, Flowers and Paulson shorted it into the dirt with help of Schumer.

I am not sure what PC I will bu not. Not Levono. I think Gateway was bought by another company.

Toshiba? Sony? Toshiba years ago sold machinery to allow the Russians to make better sub propellers or silent stuff.

It is madness that you have to buy foreign to spite leftist American companies. I will NEVER buy anything from general Electric again (they own NBC, MSNBC, Universal and CNBC).

I would buy Bosch or Maytag or something.

Well I was buying a new desktop. Acer and HP were two choices and I probably was going HP. I guess Acer is what I will be buying.

Sad. Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard were good men and Dave was a big Repub. I do not think Hewlett was a lib.

Not just HP. Just about every Fortune 500 company has high-level employees dedicated full-time to sustainability, diversity, lib-cause-of-the-month.
