Rudy Giuliani has come out against feckless New York governor David Paterson's proposal to make gay marriage legal in New York. It probably wouldn't have surprised anyone if Rudy had been in favor of it, given that his positions on social issues are painted a liberal shade of blue. But Rudy supports civil unions, not gay marriage. The interesting thing is not his position, it is that he has, in the words of the New York Post, "declared war" on gay marriage. Which can only mean one thing. The mayor wants to be governor.

Looking forward to Gov. Giuliani.
Also, let’s say Giuliani made it to POTUS this last cycle, he sure wouldn’t be leaking highly classified CIA memos.
Do you have any complaints about a Giuliani gubernatorial bid?
I know you were against him as president, but how about Gov?
I was very much against him as POTUS, but NY governor?, go for it!
That’s my position.
Would be great but Cuomo is going to take this one. It’s NY. Even liberal Repubs not welcome.
works for me
I think Rudy could wipe the floor with this idiot.
Man, I hope Rudy gets it.
A Cuomo vs. Patterson feud might screw that up.
As a NYC teacher listening to my colleagues whine, moan and groan about Bloomberg (with some reason, I admit), it’ll be interesting to hear that whine, moan and groan and complain about Bloomy’s new term overlapping with Rudy as governor.
As long as he isn’t using it as a stepping-stool to the Presidential nomination (as is in abandoning his job after 2 years in), and for lack of any potentially strong candidates, I don’t see anything overwhelmingly wrong with letting him take a shot. But I find it doubtful he’d be facing Paterson. The Dems would have to be insane to permit someone with such toxic approvals to run (and frankly, the Dems are far better with taking out people that are sure to lose the general than we are).
If he gets in he will be a better NY Republican that the Austrian has been a California Republican. Talk about damning with faint praise — actually I am a bit more enthusiastic about the idea than my first line indicates.
It’s only because the state of the NY GOP is so bad. Back when there was a more viable farm team, I’d have likely endorsed someone with more Albany-centered experience (I say that with a straight face, someone like John Faso). At least he was a fairly decent Mayor. As for Ah-nold, I stated on here 6 years ago (at the risk of losing my account) just how dreadful he’d be, and he’s more than exceeded my expectations of epic fail leftist incompetence.
