Susan Boyle, a 47-year-old singleton from a small village in Scotland, who's never been kissed and lives with her kitty named Pebbles, shocked "Britain's Got Talent" audience and the judges with her performance of "I Dreamed a Dream."

If you missed seeing this, be prepared to laugh and cry.

What a plucky little gal. It took some major gumption to get up there and face those snickering people snarky judges.

The Wall Street Journal reports that as of 11 a.m. EST Thursday, the YouTube video of her appearance had been viewed more than 12.3 million times.

And she's set the blogosphere on fire and fans a-Twittering. “When a dowdy, homely, 47-year-old woman sings beautifully, it is headline news,” Tamar Abrams blogs in a Huffington Post article headlined “Susan Boyle: Talent Without Judgment.”

A fan has launched a fan site at susan-boyle.com that already has more than 5,000 members.

Steve Rosenbaum, chief executive of Magnify.net, which hosts the site, told the WSJ that the domain was registered after the show aired in the United Kingdom Saturday. Traffic rose from more than 27,000 page views Monday to 167,000 Tuesday, 461,000 Wednesday.

Even Ashton Kutcher posted a link on his Twitter site to Boyle's YouTube clip, along with the comment, "This just made my night." Added Demi Moore, "You saw it made me teary!"

According to the WSJ, TweetStats, which monitors recurring terms on Twitter, “Susan Boyle” has been a top trend on Thursday morning

I agree. She is just a normal person. A very few things that could be easily done, an eyebrow pluck (ow!), a nice haircut, hair dye (cheaply done at home). I think she’s wonderful just the way she is too, but she could easily be 100 percent more attractive with just a little effort. It would be good for her. I heard her sing a couple times on clips of the song. Need to hear the whole thing on u-tube. Glenn Beck says it’s 7 minutes long and he could not air the whole thing. And yes, he was all pink and choked up after showing a clip of her singing and he spoke about what true beauty is, it is this wonderful lady.

If his voice changes, we don’t know what he’ll sound like, but right now, he’s magnificent.

And I think she looks perfectly fine. I’d much rather have lunch with her than some uppity conceited person. As it says in The Bible man sees what is on the outside, but God knows a person’s insides. Man is so superficial. The inner soul is a person’s true beauty. I think she is beautiful inside and out. Most people are like her, ordinary looking, but very special in their own way. It’s those hollywood types that have it all on the outside and are vacant in the soul department. Rather be acceptable to God for my insides than my outside. He knows us, knitted us in the womb, called us by name before we were even born. Born just like he wanted us to be. She is an angel. Her treasure is stored in heaven.

“Beauty is overrated....”

Amen to that. Susan Boyle has been blessed with the voice of an angel. She looks like a nice person to be around also. I hope success does not spoil her.

Should British singing sensation Susan Boyle get a makeover?

BY Lauren Johnston
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/2009/04/17/2009-04-17_should_british_singing_sensation_susan_boyle_get_a_makeover.html

And Boyle herself says she wouldn’t want the instant fame to change her too much.

Boyle, 47, burst into the spotlight last week when she performed the song “I Dreamed a Dream” on the reality show “Britain’s Got Talent.”

At least two members of the show’s judging panel have said they judged Boyle on her looks when she first appeared on stage before them. Based on the somewhat disheveled state of her baggy dress and wild hair – they admitted they didn’t expect much.

“It’s a very shallow thing to say but, obviously, the minute she walked onstage we all, and the audience, completely judged her on her appearance and everything else. And I hate saying that. But, you know, that true cliche, we judged a book by its cover,” said judge Amanda Holden in an interview Friday on the CBS “Early Show.”

But as the 18 million viewers of the YouTube clip of her musical number have seen – when Boyle opened her mouth to belt the song, she dazzled the crowd and moved her listeners to tears – among them the “Early Show” hosts, “Today” host Kathie Lee Gifford and actress Demi Moore.

Boyle’s champions – including Holden – say her “everywoman” look and story is part of her appeal and are urging her to resist a Hollywood-style makeover.

“I won’t let Simon Cowell take her to his dentist and I certainly won’t let her near his hairdresser. She needs to stay exactly as she is because that’s the reason we love her. She just looks like anybody who could live on your street,” Holden said in an interview with the British Daily Mail.

Cowell created the show and is also a judge.

Boyle lives alone with her cat Pebbles in Scotland and for years was a caregiver for her mother, until she passed away in recent years. She is unemployed and went on the show to sing as a tribute to her mother.

She claims to have never been kissed or had a boyfriend – and her story has pulled the heartstrings of all who’ve heard it.

For Boyle, the reality experience has been a dream come true.

Contrary to this morning’s comments on CNN, in an interview Thursday with “Good Morning America” host Diane Sawyer asked Boyle if she’d like to change her look, to which she replied, “I’d like that.”

But Holden is holding steady on her career advice for the rising star.

“The minute we turn her into a glamourpuss is when it’s spoilt,” Holden said
