With the push for electric cars the emphasis seems to be primarily on range. And that would be a mistake. Battery cost is also very important, but most critical factor is battery longevity. It is potentially the Achilles heel for electric vehicles.

Still not good enough. Give it 25 more years before battery powered cars make sense.

At the 100,000 mile mark the batteries will require replacement. That cost effectively totals the car.

There’s still another shoe to drop in the form of that EESTOR super capacitor. People from MIT say that one is real and that could eliminate the petroleum economy altogether, it’s just a question of manufacturing it.

The lithium ion batteries are pretty amzing for small stuff but running a car for long is far cry from operating my camera.

I can go nearly a month without a recharge for my camera and I take better than 1000 pictures per month.
