For the uninitiated in the Alberta culture, let me explain: we are the only province that does not have a sales tax. The very idea is so poisonous, so distasteful, so completely unacceptable under any circumstances, it has been responsible for the deaths of an astronomical number of political dreams.

Simply put: we will not have it.

The sales tax is unacceptable...because everyone pays it?

There certainly doesn’t seem to be the same resistance to stealing over half the wealth of those who actually work. Last time I checked, income, capital gains, whatever they call “social security”, socialized medicine, and death taxes were all still sky high.

But I guess only people who actually work hard have to worry about those. A sales tax could hit all kinds of “more equal” people!

Enjoyed your article, and your site. If Alberta should seceed, a lot of Americans would want to come, probably. Would they be welcome, I wonder ?
