Ah, yes, we can go back to old stories of the Democrat's attacks on the Bush administration and smell them like some overly-large bottle of extraordinarily cheap perfume. Given that North Korea is so big in the news over its launch of a ballistic missile, let's take in the stories from when Bush was the guy wearing the bulls eye on his back:
Headline from January 13, 2003: "Democrats criticize Bush's N. Korea policy." And from March 5, 2003: "Democrats Criticize Bush Over North Korea."
Headline from March 31, 2004: "House Democrats Criticize U.S. North Korea Policy;"
From October 9, 2006:
WASHINGTON - The shock waves of the North Korean nuclear weapons test rumbled through the 2006 campaign Monday, with Democrats quickly seizing the chance to argue that President Bush and the Republicans had neglected the North Korean threat.Headline from November 16, 2006: "Democrats Blast Bush on . Korea." And the opening another story from November 16, 2006:
The Bush administration came under fierce attack yesterday from Democrats for its North Korea policy, with the incoming chairman of the House International Relations Committee saying that change is "long overdue" and that the United States should allow its chief nuclear arms negotiator to visit Pyongyang, North Korea's capital. One article written by two prominent Democratic officials rattled sabers, said, "if North Korea persists in its launch preparations, the United States should immediately make clear its intention to strike and destroy the North Korean Taepodong missile before it can be launched."
You want to rattle those sabers now that YOUR hands will be the ones drenched in blood, Democrats? I didn't think so. Democrats ruthlessly attacked Bush from every side, regardless of what he did or didn't do - and even attacked him for not being aggressive enough (when they had ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION of ever actually being aggressive themselves) when it suited their interests to do so. Now that they're in power, they will go back to doing what they do best: being appeasing weaklings. "Don't fire that missile, or we'll go run and tell the UN" - who will of course do absolutely nothing.
A World Net Daily article kind of encapsulates it all: "Virtuosos of the attack mode," detailing Democrats going after Bush with one unrelenting attack after another on every issue under the sun. Another article points out the sheer vicious hypocrisy of Democrats for attacking Bush for going it alone in Iraq, even as they attack Bush for not going it alone on North Korea.
Democrats ragged on Bush throughout his presidency on North Korea, and now they should be held completely accountable for absolutely every single thing that happens there. But as nasty as Democrats were over North Korea, it doesn't even begin to hold a candle to how absolutely despicable they were on Iran.
Here's a December 5, 2007 headline of Democrats blasting Bush on Iran: "THE NATION - Democrats rip Bush's Iran policy - Presidential candidates say a new intelligence report shows that the administration has been talking too tough." And of course it now doesn't matter one iota that it was the DEMOCRATS who should have been blasted, because Bush was right, and they were completely wrong, and now Iran has enough nuclear material to make not one but FIFTY nuclear weapons.
Thank you for covering for Iran's nuclear program, for all those Bush years, Democrats. Now the resulting nuclear Iran is your baby - and you'd better softly coo while you gently rock it or it will blow up in your faces and engulf the world.
How about Afghanistan? Obama repeatedly blasted Bush for not making Afghanistan the central front in the war on terror (which he's now renamed to 'Overseas Contingency Operation' in a naked attempt to disguise reality with political blather) with a larger commitment of troops and resources, but now that he's "the man," he is clearly not willing to commit the kind of force that he himself argued would be needed. It was all just talk. He likewise blamed Bush for not pursuing international cooperation from other countries in Afghanistan, but that was just a lot of talk, too, and Obama if anything is actually getting FEWER European troops in Afghanistan. Now, for all of his posturing over Bush's "global isolation," Obama gets to find out how truly utterly useless "the world" is when it really matters.
What are we even supposed to say about this kind of deceit, this unrelenting attack regardless of what the facts actually are?
Well, turnabout is fair play, and now it's OUR turn to unrelentingly blast Democrats for their failures on North Korea and every single other place under the sun, isn't it? And therein lies the rub.
You see, I used to support the President OF EITHER PARTY where I thought he was right, and oppose him where I thought he was wrong. But that isn't the way Democrats roll. They just attack for the sake of sheer partisan advantage, and frankly didn't give a damn what they were attacking over, as long as the attack accomplished its purpose of bringing down Bush and Republicans.
Witnessing the last eight years of Bush Derangement Syndrome have made me more cynical - and unfortunately more willing to tolerate the sort of vicious, unrelentingly critical, backbiting, underhanded, dishonest, disingenuous, and deceitful tactics, only now against Democrats - than I have ever been in my life. Democrats have degenerated politics into a state where either conservatives abandon the political field altogether to preserve their integrity, or else declare the same brand of total war on Democrats that Democrats have long-since declared on Republicans.
Part of me wants to value honesty and sound political action; but another part of me - taught by Democrats on how to win through poisoning the process - recognizes that we are in total war with the Democrats, and understands that you have to use the tactics of your enemy if you hope to prevail over your enemy. If they use poison gas attacks on your soldiers, you use poison gas on theirs; if they firebomb your cities, you firebomb theirs. Maybe at some future point both sides agree to stop, but you return sucker-punch with sucker-punch until that day comes.
As for me, I will try to walk the tightrope. I will try to maintain my values, and attack only when those values are being trodden upon or undermined.
Unlike Democrats, I want our troops to win - even when President Obama is their commander-in-chief. I'm just not willing to undermine our troops for the sake of sheer political expedience. And I'm certainly not willing to personally demonize them as a cowardly backhanded attack on the president in time of war.
Unlike the Obama Administration, I'm not willing to create blatantly false "facts" in order to demagogue my way to unconstitutional policies, whether "pro-conservative agenda" or not. And I'm sure-as-hell not willing to blame my own country on foreign soil.
Mark Twain famously said, "A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on." And the Democrats put that sad fact of human nature to good use for the last eight years. But now their lies must be exposed for all to see.
Ultimately, we simply can't match Democrats in loathsome-for-loathsome; we have to recognize that they are simply far superior in their loathsomeness. Somehow we have to continue to count on our ability to expose liberal slander and lies rather than to try to match liberal tactics and drum up slander and lies of our own. We have to hope that there are still enough American people who care about the truth to rise up and make a difference in future elections.
This is an excellent post! It communicates my very thoughts about the loathesome democrats of today. My cynicism has reached an all-time high and I view them as my enemy because of the havoc they are wreaking on this country and her citizens because of their willingness to say and do anything to hold the reins of power. We are at war and I’m not referring to Iraq or Afghanistan.
I view the difficulties of Iraq especially - and Afghanistan as well - to the Democrats doing absolutely every single thing they could to undermine, backstab, demagogue, and demonize so that they could create a failure to hang around Bush’s and Republicans’ necks. Hindsight will reveal that it was THE biggest issue that Democrats used to undermine Bush - even as it became evident that Bush and the surge were right and Democrats and the politics of failure were wrong.
A study of Iraq will show that Bush HAD to invade, because the UN was utterly corrupt with Saddam Hussein and the “oil for food” program, and Russia and France prevented ANY meaningful international sanction that would have had any chance of forcing Iraq to comply with inspections. Bush had to choose between allowing Iraq - which EVERY single major intelligence service in the world said had WMD - to give such weapons to terrorists.
Given the fact that Bush came into office with inspectors having been kicked out of Iraq for FOUR years, and due to the fact that the international community was clearly never going to take the Iraq threat seriously, Bush invaded.
If Democrats had remained united with Bush - and they DID support the war and its aims before turning against it (to mock Kerry’s “I voted for that bill before I voted against it” line) - I think we would have received more assistance from Europe. As it was, they were able to use Democrats’ refusal to help America to justify their own refusal to help America. I mean, really, why should Europe offer us any support when Democrats were doing everything they could to undermine support?

It has long been a frustration of mine that Republicans allowed so much of the BS the Democrats threw at Bush to go unchallenged. Outright treasonous statements were never rebuked or done so too tepidly. When the founding fathers began the war to break from England's George III, I imagine they thought they could fight with nothing but honesty and integrity. In a perfect world, that would be the case, but we live in a world populated by humans and perfect isn't a part of our make-up. I couldn't agree with you more. NO MORE MISTER NICE GUYS!
And just to make sure I was clear, I’m not saying we be like Democrats and just attack with a giant sack of lies. If it’s a question as to who can be more dishonest, liberals will win every single time.
We need to attack with the TRUTH. We need to label Democrats for the hateful lying weasels they are - and have the evidence to back up the claim.
And we certainly need to go on the attack, and stay on it like pit bulls on a meat truck.
The era of “polite statesmanship” is long gone. Democrats did away with it over 20 years ago. And it is long past time that conservatives quit bringing blunted foils to a nuclear bomb fight.
I didn’t mean to imply that our opposition be like that of the Democrats. Just that one shouldn’t bring a copy of Emily Post to a fight with the dems. They are vicious and brutal and have no qualms about destroying anything that stands in their power grab. We shouldn’t either, in defense of truth and this great country. It shouldn’t be too hard, afterall, they give us so much ammo.
The funny thing is that the liberals who just flat-out tee-off on Republicans in the most hateful ways imaginable (such as anything relating to Sarah Palin), but demand that conservatives be civil and courteous at all times.
I get in a lot of debates with atheists (who are the very worst forms of all the creeping, crawling members of the liberal species, btw), and they are filled with insults toward me. But the moment I say anything derogatory in return, suddenly they make the entire argument about “my personal attack” - disregarding the 25 vicious things they said about me.
This just seems to be a part of the liberal playbook, and of course the media picks it up and runs with it. Liberals can say 5,000 hateful things; but one Republican says one, and it’s all over the headlines.
We’ve got to have the goods whenever we get into the mudpit. Because we’re held to a different set of rules.
Yes, sadly this is all too true. The media have done a masterful job of convincing the populace that Republicans are the evil, racist hateful ones that trample on the constitution and seek to oppress women.
We have a long arduous fight ahead. I would feel so much better if I could point to one man or woman who I thought was up to carrying our banner.
There was a time - and frankly not all that long ago - when I would have said that politics wasn’t about personalities, but about ideas.
But I was naive.
Now I realize that politics is virtually ALL about personalities and presentation, and very little about ideas and truth. Because unfortunately we are no longer a people/country capable of rising to a moral or intellectual level in which ideas and truth can win the day.
We’re now a “Paris Hilton” culture in which it’s all about image, and little about anything else.
We’ve got some great young Republican leaders. But most of the older generation is that “country club Republican” crowd that doesn’t inspire anything.
There’s hope.
On a local Baptist church has this sign up.
The problem is not who is president,
the problem is not who is Lord.
I believe that it is also the solution.
Oh, I agree completely.
This is pretty much my view in a nutshell:
If you cheat and read the last page of Bible in Revelation, you will find that God wins.
But we are told about the end of man, and it aint pretty. The human race degenerates into the worship of a Satan-possessed human figure called Antichrist, one-world government, and the mayhem of Armageddon. And I believe that we dramatically accelerated it all with the election of Barack Hussein Obama.
I’ve got this righteous anger thing re: the sheer stupidity of man going on even as I look up and wait for God to rescue me from the hellhole mankind is about to make of the world.
Very well stated! The dems are the most despicable creatures on the planet in that they undermine their own people to get what means everything to them - unchecked power.
I think that they ultimately think the USA is eternal and nothing they do - no matter how self-serving, stupid or risky - will ever have any real consequences.
They are 1) immoral and 2) fools.
