I recently informed a reporter that I am an "Old School" Republican. She immediately sought clarification regarding the basis of my statement: "Did I envision myself to be a disciple of President Reagan or was I referring to years prior to the 1980's?" she asked. Though I categorically identify with the unifying demeanor and unwavering patriotism of President Reagan, my "Old School" statement readily aligns me with the founding fathers of the Republican Party. Simply stated, when I inform people that I am an "Old School" Republican, I am referring to the principles, morals, and goodwill that led to the formation of the Republican Party in the 19th century... formed by the brave, kindhearted and compassionate people who left the comfort of their homes in the north and travelled to harm's way with a courageous and unyielding determination to abolish slavery on American soil.
I am the type of Republican who believes in the sanctity of life, the necessity for self-responsibility, the benefits of participating in the American Dream process, the need for small government and less taxation, the right to bear arms, and the daily acknowledgment of the Divine guidance that leads me along the path to become Florida's next US Senator. I do not waiver from my stances as a "19th century Republican" nor do I take multiple daily polls to determine which stance is more politically viable. Plain and simple: I, Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr., pledge to support and enhance the core values of the Republican Party each and every day that I provide service to Floridians.
In media promulgated terms, the GOP is rapidly facing the proverbial fork in the road. Along one path, the GOP remains true to the core values that made our Nation great and our Party strong. This is the path whereby you can find me at all times. Along the other path, the GOP likely becomes a mere shell of its former glory as a "Democrat-lite" Party. While some members of the Republican Party are fully at home on this path, I view this choice as a disgraceful slap in the face to the many 19th century Republicans who shed blood sweat and tears as they fought to reclaim liberty and establish the American Dream for all Americans.
My friend, I was the first to declare candidacy for Florida's US Senate seat in January of 2009. Rest assured, my commitment to the people of Florida is firmly cemented as the 2010 US Senate race begins to take shape. As the only true conservative in this race, you will not find me doing the "Do-si-do" depending on the day's polling information or based on whether certain other individuals do or do not decide to run this race. While such individuals may deliberately take this non-committal approach by repetitively placing one toe in the ring and then pulling it out of the ring, I am steadfastly taking the pulse of our state while connecting with Floridians on my Health Care listening tour. In effect, you will find no political posturing in my campaign; but rather, you will find a southern gentleman with a "servant's heart" who "dares to care" about the needs of each and every Floridian.
With the understanding that we live in an era of media induced sound-bites, let it be known that I am an ELEPHANT to my core. Always have been, always will be. For the record, those other guys who may or may not be running (on any given day) are the RINOs.
Right here, right now, I proclaim the 2010 US Senate election as the race whereby the ELEPHANT reclaims glory throughout the GOP!

Yomin, Did you see the latest American Daily Review pieces on Marion Thorpe? I spoke with some party leaders in Miami. They say they’ve known Thorpe since Thorpe was fired from Jeb Bush’s campaign over allegations of domestic violence. The guy bashed G.W. Bush all of last year until you and a few other conservatives got involved. I’d like to hear your take on it as you’ve written a lot for him and I like your other stuff.
I don’t know anything about the domestic violence. Regarding the rest, all I can say is that I found Marion Thorpe to be a clean slate when I started with him in Jul.and was glad to find someone we could train to be a defender of conservative views. I saw the ADR piece, ADR researches well and Barnhart is very fair and also initially supported Thorpe. I tried to contact Thorpe and also spoke with the printer. All I’ll say is that the need to withdraw support was clear and that if Marion Thorpe had any self-respect he’d withdraw from the race. It’s very unfortunate but I won’t say more publicly. Suffice it to say that if it were only the checks I would not comment out of respect for the man and that other former campaign managers for the congressional race view him in a similar light.
Also, the only reason I’m responding here is because it’s FR, which I feel a certain sense of obligation to and feel I’ve unwittingly misled conservatives after having been misled myself. I’d ask you not to include my comment in any press releases going around. FR is home to conservative activists and it’s important to correct huge mistakes when they’ve been made on this forum, which is the home of conservative activism. This is especially true as Marion Thorpe may well dupe enough good conservatives to take a point away from a strong conservative like Vern Buchanan or Marco Rubio and I want no part in that.
Rats, I was waiting to hear what the reporter had to say after his description of what a republican is...
I’d worry more about him.
Never mind that Marion Thorpe’s a sham and a fraud as a conservative and is using it as an angle to split the conservative vote. He thinks he’s doing Charlie Crist’s bidding but Charlie doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. Neither does Jeb.

That’s not exactly the response I would have liked but I understand what kind of position you’re in. Next time check your candidates out more. At least speak with the Miami-Dade GOP. And listen if they warn you about someone.
