Score one for the taxpayers and owners of ground zero. No longer will the construction delayed tower be referred to as The Freedom Tower, it is going back to its legal name, One World Trade Center.
The fact is, more than 3 billion dollars of public money is invested in that building and, as a public agency, we have the responsibility to make sure it is completed and that we utilize the best strategy to make certain it is fully occupied, the Port Authority said at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090328/ap_on_re_us/attacks_freedom_tower.

“LOSES” not “looses”
you make us look SO bad when that happens
It was cut and paste comment at site
This isn’t a score for taxpayers. It’s a poke in the eye of freedom-loving American citizens.
That building should be a symbol for the land of the free and the home of the brave.
The irony, if it can be called that, is incredible that the name “Freedom Tower” was dumped only after signing a lease with a communist-loving Chinese company.
so fix it before you post it
don’t try to blame someone else - the other side does that - take responsibility for your actions
No, she makes us look bad because she’s a troll. Check her history.
I am not worried about all that if you are don’t click on what I post
who the hell cares what it’s called... JUST BUILD THE FREAKING THING.
The NYPD and NYFD who lost their own in those towers care what it’s called. So do the other families. Naming it had nothing to do with construction delays. I want to see it built too, but I also want the name to reflect what we lost that day and what we have fought to keep every day since.
Honestly? At this point I don’t give a damn what the families think..that thing needs to be rebuilt and somebody has to make decisions based on market reality. Is it really that important what the freaking name is? Again, are we that sissified that we’re willing to hold up construction because of a NAME? So stupid, but so symbolic of everything that is wrong with this country today.
Naming the building didn’t hold up construction or lease agreements. “Freedom Tower” was picked long ago.
Whoever builds it gets to name it. It’s the way it works.
The NY Port Authority didn’t build it, they assumed responsibility for its construction in 2006.
The building was deliberately designed to be a symbol of freedom by request. It’s supposed to stand at 1776 feet, a significant date for America, no? Governor Pataki, Mayor Bloomberg, NY politicians, and the average NYer want the name to remain “Freedom Tower.”
The NY Port Authority acquired the trademark for the name “Freedom Tower” in good faith when they assumed construction. Now they change the name on a whim against public support under the auspices of a “responsibilty to lease” when the name wasn’t preventing leasing or construction? Whatever.
I give up. We obviously disagree about the principle.
