in 1951, proclaimed: "It is important that people who are to live and work together shall have a common mind a like heritage of purpose, religious ideals, love of country, beauty, and wisdom to guide and inspire them."
My, how public schools and teachers unions have changed since 1951!
Are you kidding? It has not changed at all!! All they did was redefine each of the things in that list and replace them with liberal things. Beauty = tolerance, wisdom = social justice, religious ideals = environmentalism, etc. The whole point of government schools has ALWAYS been to crank out little carbon copy 'good citizens' that will not question the status quo. None of that has changed. Only the definition of what they think someone needs to be a 'good citizen' has changed.

It hasn’t changed, and it will never change. That is why I would never send any offspring of mine to public school.

That’s why this writer and others who want to “reform” the system are just doomed to disappointment. It is not a system that should be reformed because the best we’ll get is a little model-citizen factory cranking our Good Little Patriots. Whether the values are ours or Obama’s, that’s not right.
Metmom, ping for your list.

Bulls!#@!!
Carbon copies my eye.
Despite a diverse society, there was a common sense of respect, loyalty, and civility. Narcissism was probably thought to be some kind of a medical specialist.
