Obama breaks promise on posting legislation [Campbell Brown turning on Obama ?]
CNN ^ | 3/24/09 | Campbell Brown

Whether by omission or commission, both the White House and Congress get a dose of blame for not living up to the new era of transparency promised by President Obama. The president's old campaign Web site still has this commitment there for all to see:

"As president, Obama will not sign any nonemergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House Web site for five days."

Well, the president broke that promise barely a week after taking office when he signed the Lilly Ledbetter Bill dealing with equal pay for men and women. A good bill, and certainly one that could have survived a five-day comment period. So, maybe the White House folks just forgot?

But then there is Congress and the Stimulus Bill. How fast could you get through it?

According to the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation, lawmakers had just 13 hours to read 1,100 pages of material that would cost the American taxpayer $787 billion.

That's less than a minute and a half per page, with no time for bathroom breaks. No wonder so many of our lawmakers didn't seem to notice that last-minute exemption clearing the way for bailed-out companies like AIG to pay out big bonuses.

So, the House tried to clean up the mess last week by rushing through another bill -- a tax on AIG bonuses. That bill was just 11 hours old before it went on the floor to be argued and then quickly approved.

And the list goes on well before the president took office.

Government is not supposed to work fast when passing new laws. A proposed new law needs to be examined, debated, read several times. The public needs to be consulted by their representatives, and the representatives need to explain this new law to their constituints. At least thats how it should work. Rapid passing of laws without the required due dilligence is a recepie for disaster. You'd go to jail or get sued in the private world for not doing due dilligence, I think we need the same rules to be applied to lawmakers.

There were no new tools contained in any of the recent economic legislation (I dont count spending as a tool of law) that will help reform markets or make bad companies good, this whole mess could have been dealt with by existing laws. The only thing that's been accomplished is the spending of massive amounts of taxpayer and phoney money to make millionaires and billionaires richer.

Ugh. How can anyone who is a regular to this website continue to fall for the idea that anyone in the MSM is "turning" on Obama?

They will never, ever turn on him.

The gang at NYT are PO’ed now that they are starting to see their own wealth disappear. Self interest usually trumps everything else, especially among liberals.

CNN finally noticed this? There were stories about this back at the beginning of February.

No. Libs will always put their ideology above reality. That's how Obama got elected. Make no mistake, come the next election, we'll be hearing about how Obama was the greatest leader since Jesus, Moses or even Adam himself.

Bank on it.

Oh, yes they will. Not for any policy reasons, and certainly not on principle. But they will turn on him nevertheless, for two reasons.

1. It's quite clear that Obama is in over his head -- he's already showing weakness. The media love to pick on weakness, even more than they love Obama.

2. Obama is not offering to the WH press corps the sort of deference to which they've become accustomed. He's offending their narcissism, which is in conflict with his own.

But, Campbell, what about the transparency of the omnivorous power-grabbing? Surely that was there for all to see. How did you miss it? Did you notice the guy named Rahm as in Rahm it, babe, power is what I like.

PJ O'Rourke wrote a hilarious book about congress, the title was PARLIMENT OF WHORES.

He definitely owes whores an apology for slandering their ethics as compared to our congress.
