I couldn’t agree more and the plan was to turn him loose. On a different day he would have died the day he fell out of the nest.

Fantastic!
You must be very wonderful, compassionate and loving people. I am sure you are loved by more than just the furry persons!

Every time I went outside it would fly down to my shoulder and squawk for food
Mark Twain said blue Jays are known for bad grammer. Bet you got an earful.

Of course, animals have feelings. I went out of town this weekend. My wife said one of our dogs that sleeps beside the bed cried when it was bedtime and I had not come home. :-( But I received a joyful reception when I returned home. :-)

"...they look depressed..." You've reminded me of the time I had to put down my last mini-dachshund female. She was 16½ at the time, and it was kidney failure. Her 15½ year-old mate took a couple of days to realize she wasn't coming back, and in my absense, gave long howls in that remorseful way a very lonely old hound can wail.
My landlady said the neighbors were complaining, so I took him in my well-ventilated camper to my workplace's immense parking lot. (I had slept there occasionally after an injury, so it was actually quiet and cool).
I even got complaints about my dog there!
It took weeks before he finally accepted her loss. He, who became an excellent retriever (!), eventually expired of natural causes after 16½ years also.
Boy, do the Vet bills get expensive in their later years!

You are a sweetheart!
Much love your way.
Nice post too.
We love animals. Many times ...
I prefer them over LIBERALS.

Thanks for the ping, I've enjoyed some of the story's posted. We become so attached to animals.
When my children were young we had horses, cattle, sheep, one dog, and one cat. At the feed store we bought a baby Bantam Rooster.
Had a pen for it and when we were outside it would follow us around and hop up on the porch swing if we were on it. It would hop up on the windowsill of the den when we went inside so it could see us.
We really grew fond of Banty. One day I went out and found a bunch of feathers and knew something had carried him away.

I'm sure I told you that story years ago. I searched the neighborhood but feared what I'd find if I found anything. Lol, I cried over that little rooster. Forgot to post the picture of a similar one.
Feathers on their feet too.

We do get attached to our charges, don't we.
After all, God did give them to us.
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 1:27-28 NKJV
Some of us just get a little more attached then others.
