I would like to read exactly what the newspapers’ policies were regarding birth announcements in 1961. To my knowledge, it has never been definitively posted here.
Although that doesn't prove what was done in 1961, but if you count the numbers of birth ads in the Aug 13, Advertiser, and compare them to the total number of births that occurred during those dates, you will see that they represent only a subset of total births recorded.
