In President Obama's first 11 days on the job, he wore only red and blue ties, observed Daily News reporter Joe Dziemianowicz. "Obama represents something different in politics, but he dresses the same as everyone else," said Esquire senior fashion editor Wendell Brown. "Washington, D.C., is a strange place when it comes to style. All the emphasis is on fitting in..."
The ties to red and blue go way back. Neckties are said to be descended from the cravat and used throughout most of history, at least the portion during which humans have been fully clothed. Blue was once associated with the blue blood of British nobility, while red represented the red blood of the Guards.
Red has long been associated with love. And there's some science to that, too. A study last year found red clothes on women makes men feel more amorous towards them. In sports, athletes wearing red are known to outperform their opponents, in part because referees cut the red-clad competitors some slack, researchers discovered.
Politicians, of course, love to gain advantages. Neckties are one way they try to do that. As Washington Post columnist Tom Shales wrote of a televised Bush-Kerry presidential debate in 2004: "Bush wore his traditional blue necktie, though a darker shade than the usual robin's-egg hue, and Kerry wore the classic TV-red necktie; red ties supposedly lend color to the face of whoever wears them, and if there's anything the Massachusetts senator needs, it's color."
But wait, there's more.
Red and blue are also thought by psychologists to improve brain performance and receptivity to advertising. The new study in Science supports this idea. It also suggests nuances the president might want to know about, assuming one buys into the notion that presidential messages delivered on television or on...

Red and blue ties sure beat those goofy, stick figure “kids” ties that they all were wearing about 12 years ago. I know ‘RATS love “the children” once they escape from the womb but that display of their hypocrisy was very moronic.
Time for some flamboyant Limbaugh ties.
My grandma always told me to wear a “serious, red tie.” It’s the classic conservative look—dark blue suit, business-like red tie. The blue tie thing is a more recent trend. Some guys, like Rove, seem to like orange. I don’t wear ties anymore, but when I did, I stuck with grandma’s advice and wore serious red ties.
Focus group data determine these matters.
Limbaugh’s ties are the ugliest ties I’ve ever seen. The Jerry Garcia ties are actually much cooler looking, if you’re looking for a livelier tie.
Because white ones look too much like their shirts.
Just part of the Party uniform...like the blue overall’s in Oceania...
I saw a picture of obama wearing a black tie that had thin white diagonal lines on it. It was very similar to a tie that I’ve worn before to funerals. I’m guessing obama was dressing in anticipation of the death of the country. But then again, if he was, he’d probably dress in more festive colors.
Because Obama is CGI chroma-keyed over a real scene. A green tie would let the chroma-key leak, then we’d all know.
Without a prompter he cannot pass the Turing Test, donchano.
Colors are known to encourage a psychological response. For example: Green is healing, calming, and is a good color for waiting rooms in doctors offices.
Red is an emotional color. It inspires energy, war, power, lust; Politicians use it when they want to appeal to the observer in an emotional, "animalistic" way. As in "red hot" or "on fire."
Blue is a mental color. It compels thought, intellect, calmness, spirituality, etc. Politicians wear it when they want to appeal to the "higher self". As in "true blue."
I don't believe anything a politician does is by accident. They use every tool available to them.
That picture makes my stomach turn.
Obama wears the color tie that his teleprompter tells him to.
Ugghh. As if I needed another reason to get drunk on St. Paddy’s Day.
Trump wore the same pink tie for about a year.
Assuming one buys into the notion that presidential messages.
Yeah, well, Trump manages to make looking bad a virtue. It’s part of his self-branding.
Because yellow doesn’t bring out their eyes.
