Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair announced today that Ambassador Charles W. Freeman Jr. has requested that his selection to be Chairman of the National Intelligence Council not proceed. Director Blair accepted Ambassador Freeman's decision with regret.

FYI, the lead story on the Republican Jewish Coalition web site today was "President Obama: Withdraw the Appointment of Chas Freeman." It contained a link to a petition to be sent to the WH.

In all honesty, though, the RJC would be about the last organization this WH would take advice from - and that's the WH's problem, not RJC's.

Baker and most Reps were upset with Freeman because of what he did in 2004, i.e., he joined with other former ambassadors and flag officers calling for Bush to be defeated. Freeman and his career colleagues crossed a line with such partisan actions.

FYI: Freeman was correct by the way in terms of the Saudis having the money to fund the war. They were hard pressed for a number of reasons. And they essentially exhausted all their official reserves paying for the war along with the Kuwaitis.
