Weeks ago, I obsessed on a political point: would President Barack Obama mobilize his millions of voters to apply political pressure on Washington to pass his policy initiatives. At that time, the stimulus package was the top item on his agenda, and the White House was not doing much to activate the Obama millions to boost support for the legislation in Congress. As the stimulus fight proceeded, Organizing for America, the spin-off of the Obama presidential campaign, did zap out an email to its list of 13 million and asked those supporters to hold house parties to discuss the recovery package. But discussing something is not quite the same as fighting for it.

I blame the US education system in general, and my idiot compatriots in the philosophy departments across the land in particular. If we had taught the importance of thinking, thinking clearly, thinking precisely, and thinking coherently no matter how uncomfortable the conclusions reached would be, we would not have this mass of unthinking, voting protein to deal with.

It is not the fault of philosophy departments. High school graduates not able to think clearly are probably too old to help. The education system that passes this dead weight on to you is to blame. Thank you, NEA.

When I started college in 1968, Logic (Phl 101?)was a requirement for graduation, for all majors. I enjoyed that class, and couldn't understand why so many classmates had such a hard time with it.

Philosophy, biology, theology, psychology. These should be the core curriculum of every 7th grade student. Without a working knowledge of each of them, you just raise a race of victims and slaves.
