Sorry folks. This is a staff gaffe. You actually think she goes around picking out gifts? Dream on. THhre is a whole staff who is responsible for these protocol items.

No, it's really not stupid. When gifts are being given between heads of state families, the gift has got to be a little more thoughtfully done than it was on Michelle's part. Of course, she may not have gotten much practice of gift-giving since she and Barry don't give the daughters Christmas gifts or celebrate their birthdays. She should have had the White House chief of protocol figure out what would have been appropriate. But then that would have made her look like she didn't know what she was doing and needed someone to help her. I have the feeling that neither she nor Barry want to admit they don't know what they're doing or could benefit from the insight of others.

Michelle has been on the job for less than two months. I suspect that gifts for the Brown children are the last thing on her mind, and I don't blame her for that.

Look, there are enough truly important issues for which the Obama's can be criticized that raising issues like this just appears small-minded and petty.

I saw a 60 Minutes segment years ago about the Chief of Protocol. I came away with the knowledge that nothing is left to chance.

I am wondering if ‘X’ was suggested but overruled by Michelle or someone in the Office of Protocol does not like her.

Oh, please! There may be a lot to criticize about Michelle, but it's hard for me to believe that she is the one who decides that she needs to obtain gifts for children of White House guests or what those gifts should be. And if one is going to give a helicopter model as a gift, a model of Marine-One seems an obvious choice to me.
