Steele Again Refuses to Agree With Rush Limbaugh on Wanting Obama Policies to Fail - Video 3/4/09

Here is video of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele on The Today Show this morning, where he talked with Matt Lauer about the controversy with Rush Limbaugh. In the interview, Steele refused to say he agreed with Rush Limbaugh that he wants President Barack Obama to "fail." Lauer even tossed Steele something of a softball by asking him if he as a conservative wanted the policies of Barack Obama to fail. Again, Steele refused to say he does, instead using the line that it is his job to listen to all the different opinions on the issues and craft a message for the Republican Party.

Steele did stand up for policies that are smaller government and more business friendly, but he absolutely refuses to say in any way that he agrees with Rush Limbaugh or that he wants the policies of Obama to fail. Steele says the dust-up with Rush Limbaugh is "yesterday's news," but if he continues to take this approach, the controversy if far from over. Republicans must fundamentally want the socialist policies Obama is pushing to fail, and should not be afraid to say so bluntly. . . . . . (Watch Video)

Exactly. It is not about Steel versus Rush. It is about Conservative values and the question of 'is the GOP going to stand up for them'.

This is getting silly. I don't expect Steele or anyone from the RNC to literally "agree with Rush" all the time.

AThe previous remarks by Steele "incendiary, ugly" were something different. Attacking him for standing up for Conservatism is bad, but what he said now is no issue.

He is in a hard spot. For the remarks in the top article, I see nothing wrong with them.

The Republican party deserves the position it is in and people like Steele who cannot fathom what this country is facing with 0bama and the Demonrats in power and their true malicious nature and a willingness to take on the TRUE ENEMY deserve to pay a price for their foolishness. Seems there needs to be a new conservative party.

Clarification: Attacking him (Rush) for standing up for Conservatism is bad...

and this ambivalence, Ladies and Getlemen, is why either Michael Steele, or the RNC, or both will maintain minor league status in a game of ruthless socialist/totalitarian hardball.

These are perilous times for our shaky Republic. We are in a culture war like none other since, perhaps 1776 and 1862. We do not need a black Mr Rogers in charge of rallying the troops and holding the line against the gathering storm of hard core socialism or worse.

Steele ain’t no Thomas Sowell.

He probably has more in common with obama
than skin tone.

Do YOU want Obama’s policy initiatives to succeed, or be defeated?

Meaningless gobbledygook.

I’ve heard Steele speak before he became chairman. Is this the same person?

Steele is no conservative.

“We do not need a black Mr Rogers in charge of rallying the troops and holding the line against the gathering storm of hard core socialism or worse.”

Agree; Steele is to embedded into DC culture, and life style. And, although he has made a few tough sounding speeches, he is a go along to get along sort of guy. Worst of all, during these speeches, he could not articulate his plan - other to say something like “I am going to get out there and talk to the people” - whoopie. He is not the one to lead the GOP out of the wilderness. I predict that his tenure as RNC Chair will be a short one.

You can read my previous remarks...

I stand solidly with Rush and want Obama to fail utterly and as fast as possible.

However this "Gotcha" questions by the media towards Steele, to coerece him into stoking the controversy, is tedious and silly.

If our appointed and elected leaders are afraid to say, or really don't believe, that they want our political opponents to fail, then they are not fit for the job.

It's time for leadership - not dialog.

The Dems never stopped attacking, never stopped fighting for Bush to fail and they have won. We can learn something from that.

I agree with you. Steele did not step into the trap. Had he said he agreed w/Rush the MSM would have been running with it 24/7 for MONTHS.
What I would like Steele to do is change the subject and he can do that by ‘strongly urging’ Rep. Senators not to stray from basic Rep. beliefs as enunicated by Pres. Reagan and that RNC resources will be spent on those Reps. who most stood by their party.
I would also like Mr. Steele to stay in his office and keep out of the public eye. The worse thing about Steele is that he might like being on television too much.

Mr. Steele might as well be serving on one of Bama steering committees. Does Bama have a ‘hip-hop’ committee Czar yet?

Steel didn’t want to answer a straight forward question. Rush would have answered it. Steel is a slippery politician and Rush is not. What does the American public want from it’s leaders?

Next question. Do you want some of Obamas policies to fail? Do you want any of Obamas policies to fail? What is your favorite Obamia policy?
