Jimmy Fallon: The Bravest Man on Late Night
Clearly Nebulous ^ | March 3, 2009 | Colette Moran

Posted on 03/03/2009 9:00:51 AM PST by CMoran325

P>Jimmy Fallon, who was voted by his elementary school class as "Most Likely to Replace David Letterman," debuted last night in the spot vacated by the man who actually did take over, Conan O'Brien.

It was pretty predictable stuff, right down to laughing at his own jokes before he even finishes them, but I enjoyed his interviews and hijinx with Bob DeNiro and Justin TImberlake. I wish him well.

(See clips and such at these links: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/29469658/ and http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/ )

But I have to give him kudos for doing something during his monologue that others seem incapable of -- telling a joke that actually cuts at Obama:

"Did you hear about Obama's new budget thing? A record deficit for next year of 1.7 trillion dollars... 1.7 trillion. He's gonna explain it all in his next major address brought to you by China."

Not cutthroat or cutting edge, but definitely more biting than SNL has been able to manage lately.

I dunno -- do any of the other late night hosts actually take swipes at BO?

Jimmy Fallon shows up in the oddest places.

Didn’t he pass through a few scenes in Band of brothers?

He played the young LT that came through and delivered ammo just before Bastogne (The Battle of the Bulge).

Very good appearance.

Leno is still doing Bush jokes - yawn. Only the monday ‘headlines’ segment seems to be worth staying up for anymore. He was OK when his writers were on strike though.

He seemed very out of place in that scene but to be honest I think it added some realism to it.

He’s spending the next few months prepping for the takeover of Leno’s spot

I agree.
He was good, be he was immediately recognized for his SNL work.

TRIVIA:
Remember the one-armed officer at the beginning of Saving Private Ryan? The one who collected the various death notifications of the Ryan brothers?

Bryan Cranston got the movie role.
But, originally, that was slated to go to Ed O’Neill.

You know, “Al Bundy”.

Unfortunately for Ed O’Neill, his test reels were greeted with laughter when everybody saw “Al Bundy” in uniform.

Poor Ed O’Neill. He has a hard time breaking away from that role!

Yep.
“Dutch” was really good, but everything else just doesn’t feel right.

Ed O’Neill was a victim of his own success.

Al Bundy is one of the greatest television characters of all time, the same can be said for Peg Bundy.

It’s a shame Ed’s been typecast, I hope he’s enjoying the ooodles of money he’s made due to syndication.

I watched fallon and found it ... cringe-worthy

I also sat through letterman to see U2

katy kouric was the guest and i can say that Conan will enjoy monster ratings, dave is old, bitter and not the least bit funny

Headlines is the best segment Leno does and that is on Monday the only day I tivo his show. I usually fast forward his monologue and just watch the headlines unless there is a guest I want to hear.

I could only take a few minutes of Jimmy Fallon. He is NOT funny, looked nervous or high strung or just high on something. I quit watching when he started the slow jammin' the news.

That image is apropos of something, but what? I saw the image properties and must say that bear does not actually look like he is making love to himself, but what gives? Where’s the pancake?
