America is both a Republic AND a Democracy, no how much the “abolish the 17th amendment” crowd doesn't like it. (If you want to live in a Republic with NO Democracy, please move to Cuba) And ironically, I think the “we're a Republic” gang would actually be a lot happier if they were living in a british-style constitution monarchy.
