Remember how during the run up to the election, all the left pundits and talking heads and their compatriots in the Old Media said that no white person would vote for Barack Obama? Well, despite the singular fact that Barack Obama convincingly won the popular vote in a country that sees a majority of its voters are white, the Old Media is still insisting that all southerners are slavery-loving, neo-confederates that are no different than they were in 1860.
For the Washington Post, Robert S. McElvaine is here to tell us in "The Red, the Blue and the Gray" that Barack Obama is "just like Lincoln" in the same way that Lincoln didn't get the south's vote in 1860. Professor McElvaine also intimates that this is because the south is little different than it was in 1860.
Bet you southerners didn't know that you are all still slavers and racists, eh?

Prof. McElvaine needs to explain why Lincoln supported the Corwin Amendment, which would have guaranteed slave rights to the south.
Come to think of it, Lincoln and Obama are a lot alike.
How much longer you reckon they’ll let this LIEberal a$$hole bigot keep on teaching at Millsaps?
If the South was 10% as racist as he purports it to be, this carpetbagger would be swinging from a rope.
what i think is FUNNY is that BHO is constantly comparing himself to "abe lincoln".
actually he's CORRECT as:
1. BOTH of them are/were ENEMIES of The Constitution,
2. BOTH would knowingly deny us our rights as CITIZENS &
3. BOTH would happily make southerners permanently SUBSERVIANT the hate-FILLED, arrogant,LEFTIST, antisemitic, DAMNEDyankees.
free dixie,sw
High time he shagged his DamYankee a$$ back Nawth!
I’d be happy to pack for him. There are more of them coming down here than us going up the anyways. Thankfully many of the Damn Yankees ain’t bad sorts, appreciate the pleasure of living down here. The become fond of the Three Ws of the South, Weather, Whiskey and Women...
ADD: 9) Lawrence county,Al. (1949) local white farmers caring for a black farmers farm and family when his leg was in a cast. My uncles were the white farmers. Screw the Prof.
So true that, to see real racists-go to Boston Mass
You do realize, of course that Lincoln’s tepid support of the Corwin Amendment was not in any way out of character. His interests was always in stopping the expansion of slavery. The Corwin Amendment would have done that. He imagined that slavery itself would die on the vine if slavery could be corralled in the southern states. His idea was that it would be strangled.
However, Lincoln only expressed the feeling that he “had no objections” to it. He never came out directly in support of it. That was a lukewarm “support” for sure.
It should also be remembered that Lincoln always believed that a president had no power to take away slavery in those areas of the country that were under lawful observance of the Union.
Lastly, no one expected it to go through. By the time it was introduced (in the Senate and a similar one in the House) the southern states had already made it clear that it didn’t matter what northerners did because they were already leaving the Union.
I think an interesting statistic that Professor McElvaine should consider is the racial breakdown of white versus black voters in each State’s DNC primary. http://www.jewcy.com/post/how_hillary_clinton_finally_got_knocked_out_pt_2
I do realize that Lincoln’s tepid support for Corwin was not about slavery but about preserving the union. With a unified nation, Lincoln would have more control over the south in all areas including slavery.
So why did the south walk away from this golden ticket? Why fight a bloody war when there was a much easier way to keep slaves?
You probably know the answer to that but sadly, our electorate does not and neither does this WaPo propagandist who thinks the south rejected Obama for his skin color.
What southerners hate is uppity northerners who employ morally superior bullying tactics to confiscate wealth. When done Chicago style it is doubly offensive.
There are times when I would like to just slap the people that make these kind of remarks. I would be willing to be that the good professor is from up north somewhere. The people that are spouting off about racism seem to be largely in the African-American community and it is mostly against themselves.
I am fed up with the race card always being thrown in my face and so are a lot of southerners who have to deal with preconceived notions about the south. I would like to see these people come out of the 18th and 19th centuries and step into the 21st.
He’s a damnyankee and has the preconceived notions that all of them have. He is mad at the southerners and this is his way of getting at them.
Mary Todd and Abraham had slaves. Mary Todd grew up with them. But that doesn’t count since she married Lincoln, I suppose.
This damnyankee has my blood boiling and I wish that I could slap his face and throw and vase at him!!!
Where is hellinahandbasket?
Thanks for the ping. How is the puppy and how are you and Peaches and everyone in Aiken?
exactly. Similar happenings in Prentiss County MS in the late 1800's. Even my Husband's family tree in Alabama which is filled with share croppers have similar accounts.
I think some folks like to get their history lesson from Roots and romance novels... and nowadays comedians.
Hi Dixie. All are doing well. Thanks for the inquiry.
