The Time Has Come For Illinois Concealed Handguns
secondamendmentfreedom.blogspot.com/ ^ | 02/24/09 | Sasparilla

There's a world that exists outside of myopic Chicagoland and beyond the view of the Daley "political machine" that runs it. There are actually normal, sane, thinking people in the heartland of Illinois and the rest of America away from the "Chicago Machine" that aren't like Mayor Daley, Rod Blogojevitch, Roland Burris, and Barak Obama. It also defies logic to believe that many Chicagoans, who live with violence daily, don't agree with Chicago's gun laws and the "machine mentality."

There are also people outside the Windy City machine who have the unmitigated gall to believe that they can run their own lives, pay their own bills, and protect and raise their own families better than the cogs in the "Chicago Machine" say they can.

Hardly a day goes by without a story in the Chicago news media about a shooting, or multiple shootings, in this city that does not allow any handguns to be possessed by any of its citizens. How can daily shootings happen in one of the biggest handgun free zones in America? How is it possible that criminals will still rape, rob, and shoot in total disregard of the city's gun laws in such an unarmed and sheltered city?...

Was watching a show on the Hisotry channel the other night about a gang (Latin Kings) in Chicago. Horrible stuff.

I would not even consider moving there unless I had my 2A rights.

Chicago gangland mentality has moved to Washington. Here we go!

It is a fact that states/cities that allow a carry license have 50%-60% lower crime/kill rates than other cities that do not. The criminal will think twice about attacking someone that MAY have a .45, .357/.38 , 9 MM or means to defend themselves!

Ducks on a pond can only hope the other duck gets shot instead..PATHETIC!

We've got Latin Kings right here in Miami, FL. I don't worry about them too much. H&K rides my hip with thirty of his buddies. Half in the gun and half as my spare mag, always present. But to be honest, although I know they're here, I never actually see them, nor do I feel threatened by them. I guess we move in different social circles.

detroit is the exception to that rule.
of course, its mitigated by the fact that there are few people in detroit that can LEGALLY carry, and people who can are smart enough to stay out of areas where they would need to anyway.

Hold on. A gun is one obvious method. Also the easiest and most likely to generate self confidence and maybe over confidence which can itself have deadly consequences. Just because you own Mr. Sig, doesn't automatically follow that you can effectively employ the necessary tactics to win. In a one on one encounter you have better odds, but those numbers drop as the numbers of bad guys rise, like a gang encounter. Then it all comes down to skill and mindset.

If you live in a gun oppressed area and have no recourse of moving, then take the road less traveled and start studying the martial arts. Or buy either a stun device or pepper spray. Heck, even an old guy with a walking stick can be sudden death in every direction with just a little bit of training. Self defense is great exercise, too.

I was thinking more along the lines of the new X Frames from Smith and Wesson in .460 and .500 calibers. I'm leaning more towards the 460 because it will also shoot 45 Long Colt and 454 Casull.

If I go to prison for having a gun, then I really DON’T have them.

“start studying the martial arts.”

You think THAT would prove useful against gangs????

LOL to be honest with you, I don't care if you're armed to the teeth or sheep waiting to be shorn. If you think you might encounter a gang in any numbers exceeding ONE then I think you might ought to start engaging in cross country track instead of martial arts. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to do much myself besides open fire. I'm too young to die and too old to take an A$$ whuppin' and I'm too fat/out of shape/sickly to run. So I carry a spare mag or two and practice more often. After I get my Gastric Bypass surgery this summer that situation ought to improve. But until then, I'm stuck like Chuck, in this rut!

Bad advice. If skill and training is that much of a concern then pick up IDPA shooting or some sort of combat handgunners class. You'll gain skill with your weapon MUCH faster with that than learning to break bricks and boards.

My belief is that everyone has self-preservation instincts, even stupid gang members.

If someone pulled out a gun and they didn’t expect it, I think they would be the ones running.

Hope that I never have to find out, but that is my belief.

I want to take a 5 day civilan course at Blackwater one of these days.

$999 for the week, not including ammo.

I would suggest that you obtain a gun.........

There are plenty of ways to get one, without records. You just have to be pro-active about it.........

Chicago is supposedly "gun-free" and illegal to have a pistol...yet murderers use guns just about everyday.

Every "gun-free" city I know of....has murders by perps using guns. Generally the "only" people obeying the "rules" are law-abiding folks..........

Personally I am for protecting myself, my loved ones, and friends....which IMO describes the 2nd Amendment. I'd go to jail...in a heart beat if I protected my life, my loved one's lives..or a friend's life.

I've personally drawn a line in the sand....

I guess...everyone has their personal "lines".

FWIW-

Did you read what I said? HERE, TRY AGAIN: If you live in a gun oppressed area and have no recourse of moving... However, taking your words at face value they are valid only if you watch Chuck Norris or Steven Segal.

I'm an IDPA competitor (in fact I was the very first shooter in the very first match held by the very first sanctioned club east of the Mississippi in 1997 or thereabouts -- I used JHP to commemorate the moment) and an IDPA Safety Officer and an NRA Firearms Instructor with 20 years experience. Yet which skill do you think I use more often as a high school teacher in the inner city: Gun skills or my Aikido? Here is a hint: I'm nowhere close to being a "Black Belt."

I have used Aikido techniques to help control autistic children, to break up fights and to (btw) deter an attack on myself. I love Aikido because there is no complex "Kata" to learn; no kicking or punching (therefore no board breaking) and it caters to older folks like myself because if you use any physical strength you're doing the technique incorrectly. It is also absolutely the most beautiful art I have ever seen, surpassing greatly even the ballet, for the economy and fluidity of movement. Aikido is less a fighting art and more of the art of solving problems. OTOH, Aikido is the soul of the Samurai. It is a "sword art" and it can be utterly lethal if you choose or are forced to approach those boundaries.

One of my former teachers (Sensei) was in New York City back in the 1970s as a younger man (still a black belt) and he basically wiped out 10 members of a street gang with just a rolled newspaper, later discarding the blood soaked rag in the trash as he strolled out of Central Park in the late evening. I don't think any were KIA but he really messed those punks up. He once told me that he really worries about multiple attackers when they number only three. Said that any more and they always wind up getting in each others way. Makes 'em so much easier to deal with. In my last inner city school (before I moved even deeper into the city) I had about 5 punks who were after my scalp because I got their buddy expelled. Sensei told all the assistant black belts to encircle me. Then he whispers in my ear what to do. He screams at them: GET HIM! As they all rush inward at me, I simply leaped into their own circle and they literally smacked into each other. Hard enough to fall to the ground. Then he showed me how to handle the next phase, but that is more than I need to discuss. The point is that the right martial art can and will do the job, if you practice and apply yourself with the proper mindset. Sensei made me read the Book of the Five Rings and a book called "Living the Martial Way" by some USAF Major. I think both are listed on my FR Home Page
