In an effort to provide background for the Navy’s leaders to use in their interactions with the media and public, the Navy’s Chief Of Information has been producing monthly “snapshots” documenting the Navy’s key activities on one day a month. This month, CHINFO chose February 19th, and it gives a great overview of the Maritime Strategy in action. Here are the key bullets:

331,676 Active Duty Officers, Sailors and Midshipmen; 120,567 Reserve Component Sailors, with 5,113 Reserves mobilized; and 185,478 civilians are serving in the Department of the Navy.

do you know if the exchange supposedly between a french engineer and an American engineer really happened?

It was with the french mocking the carrier going to Indonesia to help after the tsunami...”What are the Americans going to do, bomb the people onshore?”

Then the American stood up and listed the capabilities of the ship. “It has kitchen facilities that can serve 3000 people a day, it has a desalination plant that can make 10,000 gallons of fresh water a day, it can produce enough power and send onshore to power X amount of homes, it has 14 helicopters that can ferry hundreds of people a day to the 3 hospitals onboard...we have 11 of these carriers. How many do the French have?

God Bless our troops and their families
