Diamond’s specialty is forensic exams of civilizations - which have always collapsed.
Diamond is a brilliant writer, and he has written many books on the collapse of civilizations, most famously, he documents the collapse of Easter Island - itself a fascinating story.
I have read all of his books and they are great, but he is always predicting disaster.
Sort of a Howard Ruff who always cries wolf.
But who knows... he may be right. The big criticisms against the Elliot Wave theory and Kondratieff theory were the long-term data... but for a 60 year supercycle, we would need centuries of data, and we only have a modern economy for less than two centuries... so real meaningful data is non-existent.
Anyway, Kondratieff’s theory does agree with the behavior of fractals, which are the descriptive geometry of human activity.
He did make some interesting points at the 12:06 mark (elites wrong decisions) and 13:38 (elites conflicts of interest)...and 15:10 caught my attention (slipping in “invasive species” as a concern).

I read the book (years ago), and this article. I don’t recall it being quite as in-your-face about the societal characterizations.
He posited an interesting theory that can be summarized by saying societies that migrated east-to-west could remain well fed with crops that could be cultivated in constant latitudes - where as societies that had to migrate north-to-south were not able to adapt their familiar crops - so had to remain hunter-gatherers for a longer period of time, hence Columbus discovering America instead of the other way around.
Still an interesting read with some interesting theories, as I recall.
