NY Gov. Paterson: Proposed "Fat Tax" on Soda is a Failure
Patriot Room ^ | February 13, 2009 | Bill Dupray

Chalk up a loss for the nanny-staters. Gov. David Paterson (D-NY) thought it would be a cool idea to tax non-diet soda to penalize people for drinking something that he thinks will make them fat. We have been following this glittering jewel of liberal arrogance since he made the proposal in December.

Then, last month, some modern-day Sons of Liberty decided to protest the tax by throwing a New York Tea Party, where they dumped soda into the Susquehanna River. (Video at the link)

Finally, after weeks of protest by sensible, ordinary folks (and probably the Beverage Lobby), the Governor is throwing in the towel.

Paterson doesn’t strike me as being a very bright individual. Of course, intelligence isn’t a requirement for being a politician. All you need is a gimmick. ie: Paterson and Obama.

At least until the Dems can attach it to an unrelated bill at late some night.

You might be right about Patterson not being too bright. But he does seem smarter then most NY pols; Rat or RINO..That's not saying much. One thing the Gov has going for him, he actually acknowledges that there's a NY above the Tappanzee bridge. Upstate has been sending its Tax $$ down river for decades, because NY is run by NYC libtards. The Gov is from upstate, couple that with his recent pick of Gillibrand for Senate, and the downstate libs don't really like this guy. They will primary him in 2010, most likely against the downstate’s guy: Andrew Cuomo. Not saying I'll vote for him, but I hope Gov. Patterson is on the Dem ticket in 2010. NYS does NOT need another Cuomo as Gov.
