Must Read Of The Day: What I Have Learned From the Twentieth Century
Transsylvania Phoenix ^ | Mike Vanderboegh

LESSON NO. 1: If a bureaucrat, or a soldier sent by a bureaucrat, comes to knock down your door and take you someplace you do not want to go because of who you are or what you think -- kill him. If you can, kill the politician who sent him. You will likely die anyway, and you will be saving someone else the same fate. For it is a universal truth that the intended victims always far outnumber the tyrant's executioners. Any nation which practices this lesson will quickly run out of executioners and tyrants, or they will run out of it. Read on

So these folks want to throw out the rule of law and replace it with "I do what I want when I want no matter what" and they think that will work when everyone does it?

Sorry, if my neighbor opens a pig farm next door, I'm calling the city zoning department and hopefully they'll send a bureaucrat out to talk to the idiot. Rule of law works for me.

This sort of sentiment is being noticed but the powers that be haven’t quite figured out how to deal with it yet. There will be the customary sneers of “hysteria” but there will be real fear behind it: the fear of a con man contemplating a crime who’s been found out. He’ll try to bluster his way through with it anyway.

In 1951 a law was passed in my old country Romania banning the private posession of all firearms, of course for the sake of public safety. My grandfather obeyed the law and surrendered his war capture Luger pistol, a shotgun and a Remington rifle. In 1953 my grandfather was handcuffed, thrown in the back of a truck and sent to a forced labor camp by soldiers sent by a communist politician named Gheorghiu Dej. Under another law passed by the communist regime, he was tried, found guilty of being a capitalist exploiter (he owned a convenience store and he wouldn’t give up his 12 acres of farmland) and for that, sentenced to life in prison. They try to arrest my father too, but he narrowly escaped and liven under an assumed identity for 15 years. The gun confiscation, the arrest of my grandfather and of another 2.5 million Romanians was done by the law book. Laws proposed by a dictator and voted by parlamentarians of his communist regime.
So what were you saying about “throwing out the rule of law and replace it with I do what I want when I want no matter what”, troll?

This is not about what your neighbor inconveniencing you. This is about a government using its police power to deprive you of your God-given, Constitutionally-protected life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. There is a difference.

There is a line and the Federal Government is apparently chomping at the bit to cross it. They, in their arrogance, have forgotten that actions have consequences. Nobody in their right minds wants a confrontation like this. Reminding the powerful about the realities of such a conflict is, IMO, a not a declaration of war but a plea for peace.

Rule of law works for me.

The scum that were hung after the Nuremberg Trials were following "the rule of law"....their law.

The scum that will come after your guns and your freedom will also have the law on their side.

You can worship the law if you choose.

I'd rather die fighting as a free man.

And yes, I think it will come to that.

I would stand against a totalitarian state. But making that call would be a serious endeavor and not something where I define what stands between me and my "pursuit of happiness" in some narcissistic stance.

During the Clinton years - when some real totalitarian moves were being made ( none succeeded thankfully )many signed on to FreeRepublic in quiet preparation for the unthinkable. And many others became more careful - Louis Freeh (head of the FBI) expressed concerns about the Clintoneistas in his book about that time period. I suspect if this country was taken over by totalitarians you'd see lots of civil disobedience and people from all walks of life standing up to it. But we are not there - not anywhere near there - and hopefully we'll never get to that point.

Within the confines of, say living in NAZI Germany, these suggestions would make sense - - the sheep always outnumber the wolves ... take them on.

But in the United States at this time in history, those rules do not makes sense. We have the power to change laws by talking our fellow citizens into voting for us. We have the power to run a conservative for President rather than a liberal lite like McCain... It's up to us. We have problems before us - but much of those problems are of our own making...

Every thug, monster and totalitarian puts out "laws". That's not the same as the "rule of law". In Germany the people did not make the laws - Hitler and his henchmen made the laws. Please don't confuse that with the "rule of law".

Hitler and his henchmen were elected by the German people.

Obama was elected by the American people, and we will see his henchmen when he forms his Internal Security Force. They are to be the equal of the US Armed Forces. He said so himself.

Read about the SA and SS for a look at the future.

I'm sad and horrified about what happened to your family - it must be painful for you. And yeah, when faced with that level of totalitarians - maybe these "rules" are the ones that would have to be used. Good people always outnumber the bad, but they need to understand how to stand up and what resistance means, and how to stay free. Our founding fathers know the feel of boot on neck - and created a system that makes it difficult for the powerful and corrupt to take over. They were wise men - and the midgets who run our government now haven't been able yet to undo that wisdom. I pray we never get there ... this country has too much of a history of freedom to give it up easily...
