Every cloud has a silver lining.
It is an ill wind that blows no good.
Every crisis is an opportunity.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
Even the brontosaurus-sized governmental monstrosity Obama is getting ready to cram down our throats has an upside. Those clowns in Congress are getting ready to throw a lot of money up in the air; a Boy Scout-like person (thrifty, prepared, wise, all that) will grab some of it. Hypocritical? Yes. But why stand on principal? If theyre wasting it, why not let them waste it on you?
A friend of mine is in a bit of a financial bind because her income stream depends upon banks lending to real estate investors, which theyre are not doing right now. While we were talking about her predicament, I noted that because all of her properties are in a certain low-income area, and all her tenants are minorities, she could easily become a community organizer. With billions of dollars in the Spendapalooza going to neighborhood uplift, she can apply for federal funds as a community activist.
This really is more than just a way to screw the taxpayer out of a few dollars. My friend actually cares about the people to whom she rents houses. She counsels them, advises them and teaches them basic life skills alreadyfor free, just as part of who she is. Why not formalize it and get paid for it?
I noted that programs to reduce childhood obesity are probably getting porked up; I offered to be her nutritional and physical fitness advisor. I think most of her tenants are a tax-eating waste of oxygen, but their kids are not yet lost causes. Maybe Ill jump in as Personal Trainer.
As Eddie Sutton explained, in reference to why he kept robbing banks: “That’s where the money is!”
I think that was Willie Sutton.
You’re right, but his brother Eddie wrote his lines!
