LOL! Actually, my kids would have had a great time if I simply provided the aforementioned items.

They would have been fighting over who got to get stuck up on the wall first.

I got a sled dog harness from a company in Alaska and rigged it to a sled so our Shepherd could pull my daughter around in the snow. Both had a great time!

Funny thing is, I was thinking of Cesar Milan when reading this - the dog NEEDS A JOB. He is a restless German Shepherd who must have those traits coming out. She’s given him a job, even more than just exercise. He has a purpose.

I agree that dogs need a job, especially GSDs like our 3-year-old, Wiley. What I don't get is the connection between employment and separation anxiety. The dog is happy pulling the cart but what about after it ends and the humans are off to work or school?

Our late Shepherd, Conrad, (AKA "the best dog ever," according to Mrs. Homer) was an extreme case of SA. He came to us at age 7 after suffering unknown hardships. The only job he ever wanted was to be my wife's companion. Wiley is fairly content to be home without humans as long as he has his rat terrier to supervise.

I think it’s simply the case of “too exhausted to tear up things”.

Of course, it may not be “SA”, but simply aggravation by boredom.

In my case, I simply don’t stand for any bad behavior and they learn by discipline. Doesn’t matter if they get exercise or not - they shouldn’t be taking it out on my bed or shoes.

This owner is very wise. It’s a good way to help a dog with issues. Dogs love routine and they need jobs. The simple act of putting a pak on their back will give them a sense of purpose.

Of course, there is the exercise to get all that negative energy off and out.
