In the 1992 Presidential campaign, candidate Bill Clinton mercilessly hammered President George H.W. Bush over his "broken promise." Bush had once famously said in a State of the Union, "Read my lips. No new taxes," only to be forced to raise taxes by a Democrat-controlled Congress.
No single thing was more costly to Bush than his "broken promise."
Well, Barack Obama is breaking a major promise before even being inaugurated. And an "I told you so" is fully warranted.
On the campaign trail, Barack Obama repeatedly promised a 3,000 tax credit for American businesses hiring new full-time employees.
But promises only matter when Republicans make them.
As The Hill points out, it's Obama's fellow Democrats killing Obama's promise. Doesn't that make the "broken promise" even worse?
Several Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee voiced skepticism Thursday of President-elect Obamas proposal to give employers a $3,000 tax credit for every new worker hired. In any event, Obama's promise is now officially as broken as cheap glass after a big fall on pavement.I dont think it works, said Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), a member of the Finance panel and chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. I dont think it will give much lift to the economy.
If someone offers you several thousands of dollars in tax credits when your product is not selling, are you going to hire someone? Conrad asked rhetorically.
Bowing to widespread Democratic skepticism, President-elect Barack Obama will drop his bid to include a business tax break he once touted in the economic stimulus bill now taking shape on Capitol Hill, aides said last night.Maybe the media isn't holding it against Obama because he didn't use the magic words, "Read my lips." All Obama said was, "I will give." Maybe that's what accounts for the difference in treatment?Obama suggested the $3,000-per-job credit last week as one of five individual and business tax incentives aimed at winning Republican support. He proposed $300 billion in tax relief in a bill that could reach $775 billion, and he resurrected the jobs-credit proposal from the campaign trail as one of his main provisions.
In a speech in which Barack Obama began by saying:
After decades of broken politics in Washington, eight years of failed policies from George Bush, and twenty-one months of a campaign that has taken us from the rocky coast of Maine to the sunshine of California, we are five days away from change in America.Obama promises:
I will give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job they create right here in the United States of AmericaOh, well. Broken politics and broken promises are here to stay under Barack Obama and the Democrats (you know, the same Democrats who vowed not to allow Blagojevich-appointee Roland Burris to fill Obama's vacant Senate seat, only to rub their noses in their own feces rather than call for a special election a Republican might win?).
To the extent that the Democrats are killing it because it was a dumb idea from the beginning, recognize that it is the dumb idea of the man we elected to run our whole economy. Between Obama's dumb ideas and Congressional Democrats' dumb ideas, you really ought to be scared over whose dumb ideas will win out.
Obama is about to break another promise as well: he promised that his administration would transcend partisan politics. But he won't. He'll either cave in to Democratic partisanship, or he'll be forced to cave in.
Promises mean nothing to these people. "Trust me" is merely a polite way of saying, "Screw you."
You all wanna know when Obama is lying....
When he opens his mouth. Everything out of his mouth is a sack of crap
How could Obama know what it costs a small business to hire a new employee? Especially given all the costs of govt regulations
And how could such a clueless faux intellectual then appreciate that a one-time $3,000 “tax credit” is....how he says...chump change
The mumb0 jumb0 is str0ng in that 0ne, it is.
Yes, but he’s black....
So then -if nobody uses the credit - theres no loss to the treasury, no big deal. This idiot is afraid it may work for a few businesses and divert a couple of bucks away from the treasury.
It wasnt really very long ago when NObama actualy said “Words have meaning!!”.
Try typing in your address bar the following address:
You will get the following displayed in the address bar:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&q=barak+Obama&btnG=Search
And it lists all kinds of sites about him.
Tell me that Google is not in the tank for OBozo.
Now type in your address bar the following:
Hit enter
You will get a page that says:
Obama’s hit.com
Obama / Biden Win!!
Republicans can suck hind teat
Their netroots have gone to a lot of trouble to keep anyone from using the extensions on obama’s name.
that looks like someone bought the domain and pointed it to a search of Barack Obama. I doubt that is Google’s doing, unless they are the owner of the domain. More likely, just a supporter that bought that domain early on.
One of the links does not go to a website, simply a google search page.
And I do not use google.
It actually was a stupid idea to begin with. And I’d argue that Democrats were right to shoot him down.
But... and this is really scary: we voted for this guy with his idiot promises that are so dumb even Democrats reject them.
The other thing is WHY the Democrats rejected the Obamajobcredit. It wasn’t so much because it was a stupid idea as much as it was because it would take money out of government control - and they just won’t have any of that.
With our country in crisis, I would have more confidence in a pack of monkeys than Obama and Democrats.
Well, that trick sure worked for Roland Burris and his “100% racist 100% of the time” buddy Bobby Rush.
We’ve become a nation of moral cowards. All liberals have to do is say the “R” word and watch their opposition - whoever it is and whatever it is over - just cave in.
Prophetic,
I wrote an article about Obama’s “just words” rhetoric a while back I think you’d enjoy:
