Bologna is the buckle of the Italian "Red Belt," and has been a stronghold of the Communists/PDS for several decades. Notorious for anticlerical violence and anarchism in the late 19th and early 20th century. Makes Ithaca and Berkeley look like Clarksville, TN politically.
Be interesting to see how the local "sinestri" take it when the Muslims start pushing for Shariah.

The Cathedral of San Petronio in Bologna contains a 15th-century fresco depicting Mohammed in hell. The Muslims have tried to damage or destroy (thankfully unsuccessfully) the cathedral before.
