Massachusetts Decriminalizes Pot
The Patriot Room ^ | January 3, 2009 | Bill Dupray

Of course they did. It's Massachusetts. The voters passed a ballot initiative that made possession of less than an ounce marijuana a civil violation with no criminal consequences. And since Massachusetts is run by libtards, the law has shockingly caused a whole lot of problems. For starters, the police have given up - they won't even bother to write the ticket.

I understand your point, and agree with you somewhat. However to try and draw a difference between alcohol and pot in terms of which is less incapacitating is futile at best. There is no difference between tying one on with alcohol and getting stoned by smoking a joint...both result in an altered consciences. The only difference is the ability to “enjoy” a drink without being totally drunk, but depending on the strength of the drink you can still feel the effect of alcohol. The real question is do we still want to continue to condone one elixir while punishing the one’s who indulge in the other? Seems to me a lot of wasted time, energy, money, and lives for a hypocritical argument… I highly doubt you would see a marked increase of people wondering around in altered states just because they eliminated the criminal penalties. The people that are going to smoke pot are already doing it…..

Just also understand that “Massachusetts politics” will officially go national on January 20, 2009

Then let's get Wickard v Filburn overturned, and make it permanent.

1. MA Legislature continues doing business with no quorum - contrary to Constitution. On New Years Eve: 2 Senators meet and pass laws! Media just shrugs shoulders, doesn’t consider it newsworthy.

# PARKING IN BUS STOPS: The Senate enacted H 4891 increasing the fine for parking in posted bus stops to $100.00.

# BREASTFEEDING IN PUBIC. This bill would have never passed normally. No longer. The Senate enacted S 2438, which says that no business or public accommodation may restrict public breastfeeding in any way [including exposure incidental to it], or else face prosecution. Moreover, even criticizing a woman who breastfeeding can lead to a $500 fine. (A hate crime?) A draconian victory for the “me” generation. There are some places where it’s simply not appropriate, or at least should be done with a bit of modesty.

(Don’t be fooled by this one; i think it is moved by the desire to abrogate public indecency laws)

“If you overdo alcohol you get drunk and you do lose self-control. “

The problem is the lowered barriers that are in place until you go nappy.

Uhhh, yeah, that's what getting drunk and losing self-control is. Along with a loss of motor skills, loss of memory, temporary loss of vision, in some instances a partial or complete loss of ethical and moral boundaries and more... None of which happens on pot.

Good news! They should decriminalize the rest, and watch violent crime and the resultant infringements on our 4th and 2nd amendments dry up.

We should legalize (and tax): Marijuana and its derivatives Online gambling Prostitution

Hey I agree 100% that these things should be legal, but why the libertarian/conservative push to tax them?

Out of curiosity, why? Marijuana is much harder on the lungs than cigarettes. And last time I checked, people weren't lacing their Marlboros with embalming fluid, ketamine, or PCP.

People smoke 20 or more cigarettes per day, but generally only smoke small amounts of pot, sort of like having a cocktail in the evening after work. Ingesting PCP or other chemicals has nothing to do with the debate on pot itself.

There's responsible use and then there's abuse. Some people only have a drink or two after work, others start drinking at breakfast. One's usage of anything like this is the determining factor in how it's going to affect your health.

I think it was pretty much over for you when you made this ridiculous statement...

No, alcohol is a depressant. If you drink too much you will take a nap. The problem is the lowered barriers that are in place until you go nappy.

I think that many folks mistakenly think that the marijuana being smoked today is just like the weed they all smoked back in the day.

Nope. It's much better, and far less needs to be smoked to achieve the desired results.

Oh did you find that with your pot enhanced brain?

Perhaps you should read the post I was responding to if you haven’t fallen asleep yet.

Exactly! In addition marijuana smoke opens the bronchii and tobacco smoke closes them.

it's easy to go way beyond a "buzz" with just a couple of hits. It's extremely impairing, if not incapacating. That won't happen with a couple of beers or shots.

"Extreme" pot "impairment" = Nap

"Extreme" alcohol "impairment" = alcohol poisoning, coma, death

I was responding to your post to me which was in response to a a post of mine which was not to you. So what is your point in telling me to "Perhaps you should read the post I was responding to if you haven’t fallen asleep yet."

So far you haven't responded with anything of rational substance but now you're not making any sense at all.

I thought pot heads were supposed to be calm and easy going. I begin to see why so many people related to pot get killed in fits of rage.

Booze is bad when abused.

If pot were legalized there would be a decrease in pot related crime. The war on drugs is an obvious loss with 2 million people in our jails. 51% of those in federal prison are there because of drug related crimes.

Pot is not a harmless drug. It does alter the brain. Further it is a gateway drug and would lead to increased use of harder drugs.

I don’t have the answers but the booze vs pot arguments are boorish. I’ve met many people who drank responsibly and were contributing members of society. I can’t say the same of pot heads.
