Massachusetts Decriminalizes Pot
The Patriot Room ^ | January 3, 2009 | Bill Dupray

Of course they did. It's Massachusetts. The voters passed a ballot initiative that made possession of less than an ounce marijuana a civil violation with no criminal consequences. And since Massachusetts is run by libtards, the law has shockingly caused a whole lot of problems. For starters, the police have given up - they won't even bother to write the ticket.

It may be that hashish is OK too, and this article raises the question that maybe it’s one ounce of THC that got voted in, so maybe an ounce of hash oil or maybe pure THC is OK.

The penalty for teen pot possession is now much less than for teen alcohol possession. It’s a war on just some drugs.

Another article mentioning that hashish and hash oil are now OK, plus, public pot use is now legal while public drinking is illegal in most places.

And they are considering making salvia, another plant, illegal. When the cop stops you, you confess to pot possession, not salvia possession, and to save lab fees to tell the difference, you pay $100 with no record.

Legalize it.

Treat it as a public health issue.

Immediately free non-violent drug offenders.

And people wonder why I don't trust cops anymore.

Because you're upset about a bad seizure action that took place on the other side of the country from you in 1992? Another cop hater looking for excuses.

So what's the problem? Most cops stopped bothering with busts over small possession beefs a long time ago. It's a waste of time for cops, courts and citizens.

Simple....lung cancer. I don’t know many pot heads getting lung cancer due to pot.

And since our medical system is semi-collective in nature, we all pay for cigarette smoker’s habits. That’s a significant portion of cancer suffers. I guarantee if you switched the legality and usage, we’d probably have a few more billion dollars in the system, less dead people, and probably a bit more relaxed folks.

I know a few pot heads, and it’s no really threat. Prescription/over-the-counter drugs are probably more of a concern than pot.

I don't think the law was changed for sales, especially sales to minors, thus they are still subject to arrest. Do you have any more strawmen set up?

So let me get this straight; they decriminalized buying it but not selling it. Sorry, but that sounds goofy as hell. And I think they just set themselves up for a huge, new criminal enterprise to setup shop in Mass.

And last time I checked, people weren't lacing their Marlboros with embalming fluid, ketamine, or PCP.

They don't have to. The tobacco companies use over 800 additives including saltpeter and acetone. Most are unknown due to a Federal law that a)requires each company to submit a yearly report of what they put in which cigarettes and b)the report is locked up and no one is allowed access to it. Your Congress at work for you!

I disagree. I use to hold that fairly hardline opinion on a libertarian perspective, but history doesn’t shine so well on that position. The british use to push opium on the Chinese and nearly 1/3 of their population was addicted.

Upon realizing this incredible problem, “The Qing [ching] government realized the staggering loss of goods and currency.” He destroyed the opium trade, but ended going to war with British-backed smugglers. China lost and Britain took over key ports and Hong Kong.

No one should drive on any drug, but that’s not the drug...that’s the dumb*ss person. I mean, as a pilot I’ve cancelled flights due to over-the-counter stuff.

So yeah it’s changed, but I’m less worried about weed than cigarettes. Cancer has a large ‘thanks’ due to cigarettes.

Then again, I guess you can blame sugar more than cigarettes for death.

But, the science behind growing cannabis is exceptionally advanced now and it's easy to go way beyond a "buzz" with just a couple of hits. It's extremely impairing, if not incapacating.

That is complete baloney. The amount inhaled is just as much under one's control as how much alcohol you imbibe. If you overdo pot you don't lose self-control you take a nap. If you overdo alcohol you get drunk and you do lose self-control.

The example works. Your argument is invalid because marijuana is not legal.

IOWs the only reason there were any victims in the example given is because marijuana is illegal.

“Conservatives need to get on the right side of issues like this. We need to take a more Libertarian approach.

We should legalize (and tax):
Marijuana and its derivatives
Online gambling
Prostitution

To pretend that we can stop these activities or that somehow we as a nation will morally wake up is lunacy.”

your absolutely right...its what the founding fathers would want honestly...freedom is freedom

Right on. The War on Drugs is costing billions. It doesn’t work. It hasn’t stopped drugs. It has created a hugh criminal underground. There are things that people want to do and will do and it’s nobody else’s business. That’s freedom. What you do in your house is your own business. You can’t be a champion of freedom & start telling everybody else what they can do. What kind of nanny are you? Recent TV documentary SoCal Fed judge said: “legalize it.” 2nd crop in Calif. More people died in 07 in Mexican drug wars than all US soldiers in Iraq.

This and other vices (alcohol, prostitution, gambling, etc.) should be an issue for the individual states. I would rather the federal branch keep it’s nose out of it. If the lib-tards in Mass want to decriminalize it, fine with me. If the puritans in Utah want to make it a hanging offense, fine with me.

If it were legal, it wouldn’t be smuggled and that would actually eliminate crime. Kinda like prohibition.

Lots of people don’t stop with a couple of beers or shots. Alcoholism is very, very bad and destroys families and careers. I think pot is way safer than alcohol.

“If you overdo alcohol you get drunk and you do lose self-control. “

No, alcohol is a depressant. If you drink too much you will take a nap. The problem is the lowered barriers that are in place until you go nappy.
