Patton: Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.
However “Patton: Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. “
That's politically Incorrect nowadays. Modern politics is riddled with examples of appeasement, accommodation, and downplay. It has become politically incorrect to even consider the reality of war and today you have near half the US population denying there is even a threat. The notion that a military is there to kill people and break things, is so far removed from the paradigm of modern metro-sexual cosmopolitan citizens of the world, that even after 2,800 Americans are killed in a planned and well orchestrated attack some talk of restraint, considering the other side, and even ask if we are ourselves to blame. We live in times where what should be obvious and where issues so clear have been muddied up with psychobabble, psuedo-intelectualism, liberal hedonism that coincides with the feel good politics of today. Long term all this will bring about our demise.
I Like Patton and most of what he said rings true today as it did then. However, he like Teddy Roosevelt, Norman Rockwell, and even what we are now call the “Framers” (The revisionist interpretation of our Founding Fathers) are long dead and their IDEA’s have died with them. America and our real dream, Western free society and it's macro cultural values are simply running on the inertia of their past.
