Heck, no need to make this up. We have real world examples of government involvement in car design.

*chuckle* I immediately thought ‘Trabant’ when Uncle Sam the Car Designer became a very real possibility.

A whopping 18 hp, constructed of Duroplast, and reinforced with recycled cotton and wood. A fine vehicle, that Trabant.

Very nice Buick. I’d also like a ‘55 Roadmaster and/or a ‘67 Riviera.

I used to love the Trabant jokes that seemed to be in every issue of Car and Driver in the early 90s.

Better not let Nutjob Nancy see that, she will shut down congress for mandatory repeat showings of "her" tribute.
Al Gore will get jealous and make another "documentary."

Yeah, me too. We took a bunch down to a lake to drive across and the first one sank. Something about plugged bilge pumps. That was the end of that little exercise.

My mom has memories of traveling the country in the 1940 Buick my grandfather had. I saw one at a Burger King a month ago. It looks like a fine vehicle.
