Bicycle—8 years old
Circa 1978 I think?
Ever play Jart catch? Now that’s a tricky game.
A baby doll named Angel Baby. Santa got it from the Sears catalog. That was 1968, I believe. I still have her.
I wonder how many kids out there were and are like me, in that I never believed in Santa from the very beginning. Santa made no sense to me. A comic book Superman.
I was crystal clear between reality and fantasy at a very young age, even realizing that adults had a strong desire that children believe in Santa. And they hold the belief that children live in a realm of fantasy and imagination. Sorry to disappoint. Only a few of my peers were that way. Most were clear about reality and fantasy as well, even in 1st grade.
At the same time, I had no problem with the idea and reality of religion, that there are abstracts that cannot be justified, but are still valid.
Years later, when I was in high school, I had been studying how television sets worked. A small neighbor boy mentioned that he was curious how they worked, so I told him the truth, using the language and descriptions as I had learned them. No silly tales about little men inside the box, but the truth.
Years after that, I met him again, and he remembered the description I had given him. He said that he had pondered that description for the better part of two weeks, and even asked his dad to open the already loose back of the TV so he could look inside. He said it was a real wonderland to him, and that someday he was going to find out what every little part did.
Then he thanked me for telling him, a little kid, the truth. It really mattered to him, and he would never forget it.

one year I paid BOO-Koo bucks for a life size “Barbie Kitchen” for my daughter....
Wouldn’t you know it she played more with the box it came in
than the expensive toy!
Red Ryder BB gun for me... Minus safety goggles. We were more interested in shooting each others fleshy buttocks. I know, how did we ever live before having the appropriate safety gear?
We actually had yard darts as kids but we never found it all that much fun.
Wow. Seeing your post just brought back a whole bunch of memories. I wanted that "Cylon Raider" at the top so bad! It was all I could think of that Christmas!
I would up getting all four. I had completely forgotten about that Christmas until I saw your post and now I can remember exactly what those toys felt like in my hands and how much fun I had playing with them.
I had a vertibird too... it was AWESOME!
But, I don’t think anything can compare to the HOURS I spent playing PONG on the TV.
Just like the current commercial...
I had one too—you would put powder in the barrel so when it fired there would be smoke.
My little brother tried to ride it and he did more damage than a Kraut 88.
Remco’s Yankee Doodle Secret Rocket Test Center
“There goes the warning siren preceding a launching! Now the doors open automatically and the launcher rises to shooting position with rocket primed to go! Now the automatic countdown clock ticks off the count! It reaches zero! Zoom! Rocket and satellite take off on a trip to outer space!” - from 1959 Sears Catalog

So you actually got thepony every little girl wants. You must have been REALLY good that year!
I remember those BB gun fights. lol
Back in the late 50’s I got a cowgirl set complete with hat, guns and holster and a vest. Grew up in the northeast on Bonanza and John Wayne movies. Nothing like those old westerns. Hope to finally realize my dream and move to Texas to retire.
