Tonight, the Discovery Channel will have a special on the Shroud of Turin featuring the late Raymond N. Rogers. Rogers published a paper in the scientific journal Thermochimica Acta. that is generally viewed as undermining the carbon 14 dating of the shroud in 1988 that proved the Shroud was a fake.
1. Rogers was not authorized to conduct the tests by the Church.
2. The Church said they could not authenticate that the samples he used came from the Shroud.
3. If the Samples were really from the Raes sample and the Riggi Sample, they were taken and distributed illegally.
4. Rogers calculations did not meet the usual scientific rigor required of Thermochimica Acta.
5. Rogers subject didnt meet the criteria for submission to Thermochimica Acta.
6. Rogers conclusion that the main part of the cloth is between 1300 and 3000 years old is unsupported by any of his research.
7. The science representative of the Arch Bishop of Turin, Fr. Ghiberti, walked out on the original of the presentation Ray Rogers in His Own Words claiming that he couldnt believe something could be so full of errors, and that there was no mending or patch at the site.
8. Madame Flury-Lemburg, the foremost textile expert on the shroud, and a believer in the authenticity of the Shroud, says there is no patch at the test site. She was able to examine the test site under a microscope AFTER the C14 testing and found no patch.
9. Ray Rogers was published in a journal that he helped to create. He published an article in the first Issue and was an editor until he retired after 18 years.
10. Ray Rogers was tossed a bone and published by old friends that knew he was dying. It is probable that no real peer review ever took place.
11. If ray rogers had just bought an ‘o,’ he might have attained infamy in a much more honorable and useful way.

How many true Christians faith would be shaken if the shroud is dated less than 2k, or that it’s a hoax?
Answer, none.
Many in the Church were afraid that it would. That's why they perpetuate the hoax.
Shroud ping
You haven't been on some of the threads that I have!
Agreed. A scrap of cloth does not make or break the nexus of human history.
“Many in the Church were afraid that it would. That’s why they perpetuate the hoax.”
And now thier stuck with it, damed if they do, damned if they don’t. Mayhaps that’s why the thing cought fire once before, someone thought it should go out that way to avoid future scrutiny.
Most Christians I know believe it is a hoax anyway, since Jesus wouldn’t have been buried in one single shroud (and in fact the Bible I think supports that assertion).
The coverup, and not the crime is worse for the church. When I hear about the image of Jesus on toast, or a fountain that bleeds, I can’t help but think it gives ammo to the atheiest types. Now if Obama says he saw Mohammed on his waffle, That’s a sign we can all belive in...
It has been in fires more than once.
No matter, I would still die for my faith.
Kinda makes the whole controversy moot, doesn't it?

Watch the show on Discover Channel tonight at 10:00. They will mention none of the facts. The whole "invisible patch" hypothesis was suggested originally by a duo of a defrocked priest and a registered nurse that specialize in pyramid power and spontaneous human combustion.
You're right. John mentions a face cloth too.
How can infamy be honorable? Roy Rogers was famous not infamous.
To be fair to the Holy See, they don't claim it's real, but they allow charlatans to exploit it.
Of course you are right. There are millions, however, who need proof, that's what this whole Shroud nonsense is about. That and money.
ah, yes, thank you for pointing that out.
If people need something that tangible to believe, and it shakes their faith if it turns out to be a fake, they didn’t have much faith to begin with. I find it interesting (I would love to know how it was made) but it seems unlikely that it’s really the shroud Jesus was buried in. And when I first heard of it, I wanted to believe it was real (because I thought it would be cool to know what He looked like).
