Throughout time, great nations have seen their history turn on definable points in time. Moments that historians can later look upon and point to, saying to the few who give a damn about history anymore, "HERE is where a nation saw its path diverge from greatness." The battle of Waterloo and the siege of Moscow. The election of Churchill. The capture of Lee's battle plan at Gettysburg. These are all moments in the not-so-distant past where nations' fates seemingly wheeled on a dime. Did one of those moments pass without us recognizing it for what it was?

No I am not talking about the election of Barack Hussein Obama, although that was a major event... (continued)

If I remember right, Lee’s plan was lost at Antietam.

Technically speaking, Conservatism died when the British Monarchy fell to the Magna Carta. “Conserve The Monarchy” is the origin of the political term.

The author singles out the day John McCain became the GOP candidate as the day conservatism died.

Sad to say, it died a lot further back than that, as far back as the inauguration of Bush 43 as POTUS or even of his daddy.

The capture of Lee's battle plan at Gettysburg.

Is this one of those "alternate history" things?

That might be what it meant hundreds of years ago but you probably are 1 in a million that thinks of conserving the monarchy when they hear conservatism.

Most people refer to limited government and freedom when they refer to conservatism.

I think it might have been possibly the election of Eisenhower.

Reagan resurrected it though for 7 or 8 years.

Compassionate conservatism is neither compassionate nor conservative. Hey, that sounds like a good tag line.

If the article’s as bad on policy as it is on history [couldn’t raise it on my computer], it’s not worth reading:

[1] They captured Lee’s battleplan at ANTIETAM, NOT Gettysburg,
[2] Churchill wasn’t elected in WW II. He was appointed it after the Commons voted ‘no confidence’ in Chamberlain,
[3] What ‘siege of Moscow’? Napoleon captured it, the Germans were driven back in front of it, Charles XII never went there, and the Mongols burned it to the ground.

Or Sharpsburg if you sided with Lee's Confederacy. :)

Please. The democrat party has been tring to kill conservatism virtually since it’s beginning. At least since the presidency of Wilson who publically denounced the ideology of the Founders.

This ideology is still not dead and has many followers even though it has been viscously attacked all of this time.

We need to fight on!!!

This Blago scandal is the best thing for conservativism. We’re against corruption. Many Americans are interested in this story because it’s “simple” to understand (selling a seat).
Conservatism is ready for a revival right now!!!

Let’s keep our noses clean and expose this s***
