Hebron (Chevron in Hebrew) was the first piece of land ever purchased by the Jews in Israel. Approximately 38 centuries Avraham (Abraham), our forefather purchased a cave in in Chevron to bury his beloved wife Sarah. Jews have owned land in the city pretty much from then till about 80 years ago.
In 1929, all that changed. Friday night , Rabbi Yaacov Slonims son invited any fearful Jews to stay in his house. The rabbi was highly regarded in the community, and he had a gun. Many Jews took him up on this offer, and many Jews were eventually murdered there.... It took Ehud Barack Following in the Tradition of Moshe Dayan, to make them leave. He went to Hebron under the pretense of negotiating, left and then sent in the troops to once against turn Hebron into Occupied territory. You can see the disgusting display below. Its bad enough that the Arabs want the Jews to leave their land, its worse when the Defense minister/labor party leader does it also. If there was ever a "Shanda" this is it:

Chevron=Hebron. I had no idea. Interesting stuff.
Wow. Heart breaking story. This whole situation always infuriates me. Sarah was buried in the caves of Hebron too. It is all just wrong what is happening.
Yes that was why abraham bought the cave. Isaac Rebecca Jacob and Leah were also buried there and supposedly the head of Esau (a long story)
abraham wasnt a jew.
“mercilessly banished”?
I don’t know how old you are, but at some time in your life you may want to consider moving away from your childhood understanding of these stories.
Yer waaaaay off topic.
It's pronounced as a gutteral soft Kh, not like the oil company.
Yes and it Was God who told Abraham to listen to Sara cause she was doing the right thing
No he was an Ivri (Hebrew) and the Bible says that God told his line will go through Isaac, They were called the children of Israel after Jacob (Israel). During the second temple times the holy land was the Nation of Judah (after Issac’s son and one of the two remaining tribes) After the bar Kocbah revolt against Rome in 135 C.E. Most of them flew the country. Not all there was a continuous Jewish Presence in Jerusalem,Chevron and Tiberias to the present day. It was after 135 C.E. that the Romans decided to stick it to the “Judeans” and changed the name of the Country Palestina. Those who went into exile were called Judeans and eventually shortened to Jews.So technically Avraham was not the first Jew...that’s only because the name has changed. Hope that helps.
>>Its interesting how people band together when it comes to religion and a perceived attack on that religion.
On WHAT religion - Islam, Christianity, or Judiasm? The tradition is shared by all three.
>>QBF even resorts to suggesting Im childish for posting an honest comment about the biblical Sara(h)[sic].
I did nothing of the kind - I just reminded you that there is more - much more - to these stories than we learned as kids in Sunday school, when we all dressed up in Mom & Dad’s old bathrobes and acted them out. Hints: 1/ A birth of separate nations is described here, with some suggestion as to their character. (Ishmael becomes the father of one of them.) 2/ Note that ALL Abraham’s children receive an inheritance. (I could go on for an hour, but it’s been a long day.)
So, where do you start? Google up “RASHI Hagar” and see what you get. (RASHI - an acronym - was a 13th century French Rabbi who was noted for his perceptive commentaries.) Try reading the second Google entry first:
