I Have No Pity For The Poor
The Hostile Opposition ^ | 12-03-08 | The Angry Capitalist

Posted on 12/03/2008 11:32:42 AM PST by AngryCapitalist

There it is. I have uttered those words so contemptible in modern society that the mere allusion to such a sentiment is beyond reproach. Please forgive me, but I no longer have the patience to deal with those who wish to remain mired in the lowest depths of the social order. Are there not means available to these people who perpetually contend for the scraps from the table of those of those who actually contribute to the betterment of our world? This is not to say that I have no compassion for those who are infirmed, whether it be in a mental capacity or those suffering permanent injury to their persons, or those who, now beset by the ravages of old age have fallen into poverty. No, it is not these poor souls of which I am speaking of when I condemn the poor, it is those amongst this division of society who crave not advancement or a better life for themselves but are content to permanently siphon wealth from the upper reaches of the ladder. These dregs are, in my opinion, to be held in the highest form of contempt...

Given the anachronistic voice, I thought for sure it was from the Onion at first, but I’m afraid that someone out there really took himself seriously when he wrote it. I’d laugh if it weren’t so sad.

I work for a major transportation company. I design airport facilities throughout the nation.

I always love the way the homeless are portrayed on TV, as if they are just like other people but they aren’t “fortunate” enough to have jobs. One of my most eye-opening experiences is working with the homeless—on a regular basis. Many are alcoholics and drug addicts. I have some sympathy for them. Many, many more are just flat-out lazy and expect the world to hand them a living. They won’t work, period. No reason—they just don’t want to. They aren’t mentally ill, they have simply accepted their lifestyle. But they will take whatever you give them without any appreciation.

I do care about the poor in America because they are often overlooked. The real poor are the one's that work and make just enough to not qualify for any assistance. They are the ones you see putting things back at the register. They are the ones that struggle from pay check to pay check.

Ironically, I have known people on government assistance that quit work and go back to welfare because the next step up is just to "poor" for them. Why work for less.

“’At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge,’ said the gentleman, taking up a pen, ‘it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir.’

‘Are there no prisons?”

‘Plenty of prisons,’ said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
‘And the Union workhouses.’ demanded Scrooge. ‘Are they still in operation?’

‘Both very busy, sir.’

‘Oh. I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,’ said Scrooge. ‘I’m very glad to hear it.’

‘Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,’ returned the gentleman, ‘a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?’

‘Nothing!’ Scrooge replied.

‘You wish to be anonymous?’

‘I wish to be left alone,’ said Scrooge. ‘Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don’t make merry myself at Christmas and I can’t afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned-they cost enough; and those who are badly off must go there.’

‘Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.’

‘If they would rather die,’ said Scrooge, ‘they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.’”

I think someone has already written this article.

“I Have No Pity For The Poor”

I am a former “poor person”. I mean really poor - poverty level. I agree with you 100%. I think poverty is a lifestyle choice. Of course, some people need a temporary helping hand til they get back on their feet and those are the ones we should be helping.

I don't presuppose that someone is scum because they make less money than I do. Nor do I accept that someone is better than I am because they make more. It's really an American thing. If you prefer a caste system, there are nations that cater to that kind of thing.

I believe there is Poor and there is Broke.

Poor is a state of mind. I have family members who cry about being poor. The next step they take is usually something that keeps them poor. Such as payday loans, rent to own, or commit a crime.

I am in no way poor yet I seldom have much money. None of my 6 children believe we are poor. They have never been beaten with the poor mantra.

We all choose to be in the place we are currently. If I really wanted to be rich and wealthy I would make a very strong effort to get there. I would need another tool bag, such as more education. Perhaps I could invent something. But instead I make it to work and do my best there and spend the rest of my time with the family. Most wealthy people have a strong will to be wealthy. Some of us are happy with the wealth of our family and making the world better in our own way.

And, until we figure out a way to do away with ignorance and want (those two destitute twins hidden beneath the robe of Christmas Present), we will continue to fight wars in the world and have the prisons full to over-brimming and have millions of illegals crossing the border, and have others who die trying.

Depends on the circumstances that led to ‘poor’ in my view.

Getting wiped out financially due to long term illness, for just one example.

Thats a lot different than the average shiftless jerk downon the corner, drinking himself stupid daily.
