President George Bush said he doesn't view the 2008 election as a repudiation of his presidency, but of his party.
"I think it was a repudiation of Republicans," Bush said during an interview with ABC News that aired Monday. "And I'm sure some people voted for Barack Obama because of me."
But he said he thought most people voted for the president-elect because they "decided they wanted him to be in their living room for the next four years explaining policy."
"In other words, they made a conscious choice to put him in as president," he said.
Bush said his party's nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, had "a tough headwind" for two reasons -- the swooning economy and the difficulty for a party to retain the White House for three straight terms.
"Obviously the economic situation made it awfully difficult for John McCain to get a message out," Bush said. "And I felt that Barack Obama ran a very disciplined campaign" and inspired voters.
McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate helped him, Bush said, because it "energized the party."
President Ronald Reagan went on national TV over 20 times to speak directly to the American people about important issues, and was able to get major legislation over the opposition of the Democrat-controlled Congress. How many times did President Bush ever go on national TV and explain in a few sentences how the economic policies (e.g. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, CRA) were set by the Democrats and he needed our help to get them to fix those economic distortions?
I don’t believe he ever did it. And that’s the problem. He should have done it within a year of becoming president. We all know he was busy around that time, but you don’t allow your nation to be destroyed economically, just because you need to prevent it from being destroyed externally.
This guy wanted to be president. It was his responsibility to make sure this never happened. And now it will be reported ad nausium that it happened on a Conservative’s watch, as if!

Yes, and GWB would be the last person on earth able to interpret the results of 2006 and 2008. He should switch parties if he thinks the word “Republican” is an albatross, which factor he has mightily undermined.

Odd that you say that, for today “Jebbie” was saying the GOP had to go back to its “conservative” roots. Even the Bushies disagree with each other. But they all agree, alas, that “Bush is Best”. That’s a mistake the American sheeple will never make again!

Not one Republican running for Congress or President this year asked GWB to speak on his behalf — not one.
Don’t you think that 25 percent of the total electorate is still composed of Bush family Kool-Aid drinkers? But the number will never get past 26 percent.
It was a repudiation of Bush as he was depicted by the MSM and Liberals who destroyed him on an hour by hour, day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year assault. Bush made mistakes, yes, but so did a lot of other Presidents who weren’t savaged like Bush has been. IMO, Bush not standing up for himself and going directly to the American people with the truth was ill advised. He was destroyed by Liberals and the MSM and by the GOP doing nothing to defend him. I pray that the Muslim Messiah is savaged equally as bad once his destruction of America begins. May he and his cohorts reap the rage of the American people who were duped by their lies. The coming administration are a national disgrace that must have our forefathers rolling in their graves. You can bet our enemies are laughing with glee while they plot our demise.

Yeah, no, I just don’t trust that family. Once they are safely secured as President they turn. I suppose Jeb could be different, and I don’t deny he was decent a Governor of Florida, but after two I’m not taking the chance with a third member of that family.
