Iran to US: We Refuse to Meet with you 'Without Preconditions'!
The Obama Report ^

Posted on 12/01/2008 3:53:09 PM PST by Frankusa

Barack Obama has said that he'd be willing to meet with Iranian leaders without preconditions. But apparently, the Iranians do not share that same sentiment.

According to recent news reports coming out of Tehran, lawmakers in congress have put forward a request for initiating parliamentary dialogue between the US and Iran.

While attending the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in October, Iranian officials reportedly received a letter from lawmakers in Washington, asking for a meeting.

However, Huseyn Ibrahimi, a member of the National Security Commission of the Iranian parliament, says "not so fast"!

Ibrahimi said that Iranian officials will agree "to hold discussions with the US" only “if Iran’s demands are fulfilled".

In other words, no dialogue can take place unless the US agrees to certain preconditions.

Now, that's a judicious fellow! Who in their right mind would agree to meet with a sworn enemy without preconditions? Hmmm?

If this is true, I actually kind of admire them for their moxy. Let Obama deal with the fallout.

NeoConfederate, please keep in mind that Iran is a sovereign nation. And even the Messiah can’t just shove negotiations down their throat. Obama may not have anything specific to demand of the Iranians, but they sure have a lot to demand of us. Remember when they returned our hostages back to us unharmed, back in Jimmy Carter’s days? And how did we repay them back? With tough talk. Ughhh. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful that Obama is finally taking over the helm and agreeing to meet with the Mullahs, but there’s such a thing as a Democratic process, that’s something the Iranians have always adhered to. And Obama should adhere to this too. He can’t just go around bullying the Mullahs whenever he feels like it. However, that’s just my opinion, you’re entitled to yours.

No surprise here...

I always KNEW the average Persian was a lot smarter than Obama....

Soon - the arrogant SOB will learn that for himself.

I remember how the Iranians sponsored the murders of the Marines in Lebanon, US Embassy personnel in Beirut, French soldiers too.

We should be using more than tough talk on the mullahs. I'm thinking several rounds of 671 grain diplomacy would be about right.

“Remember when they returned our hostages back to us unharmed, back in Jimmy Carter’s days?”

Not really. They weren’t released until Carter left office. Before that, the US hostages suffered due to Carter’s incompetence and poor decision making.

Carter’s Iraq plan got us a failed rescue mission with 8 US servicemen dead. We were treated to Ted Koppel’s “Nightline” and the daily reminder of how Carter didn’t do anything today to bring our hostages home.

Thanks to Carter, the US was a laughingstock in the world. No wonder the Commies thought they could walk over us! Carter showed them “a small country like Iran” (Obama’s words, not mine) could get away with it, so why shouldn’t they try? Thank God for Ronald Reagan.
