Looks like 250 terrorists picked the wrong day to screw with 30 U.S. Marines in Afghanistan. Frankly, is there ever a good day to screw with the Marines?
In the city of Shewan, approximately 250 insurgents ambushed 30 Marines and paid a heavy price for it. . . .The day started out with a 10-kilometer patrol with elements mounted and dismounted, so by the time we got to Shewan, we were pretty beat, said a designated marksman who requested to remain unidentified. Our vehicles came under a barrage of enemy RPGs (rocket propelled grenades) and machine gun fire. One of our humvees was disabled from RPG fire, and the Marines inside dismounted and laid down suppression fire so they could evacuate a Marine who was knocked unconscious from the blast.

This enemy is far from inept. They have been fighting for centuries. They know fire and maneuver tactics. They are a force to be reckoned with when the bullets start flying.
What this says is The Marines, through training and discipline, and TTP’s out maneuvered the bad guys even though the bad guys had literally ALL of the advantages you want in a fight.
You make it sound like these ‘mutton head jihadis’ as you call them, just spray and pray, or pop off an RPG hoping they’ll do their worst. The truth is (and it’s taken us a while to realize it) is that these people fully understand tactical operations, no less than the Russkies do.
When necessary the Marines also bury their heroes with elan.

You and me both DC!!
Semper fi back to you...
Or better!
Bump
Give War a Chance! Bump.
Bump for the Marines!
Imam, Imam.....
....we only outnumber the Marines 10 to 1, WE MUST RETREAT NOW!! Run for your lives, fellow jihad lovers, we are in peril of our lives! Allah can’t protect us from the US MARINES!
Sounds like Custer could have used some Marines!!!
Time to go sock some hippies in the face!
Yeah, I always get a kick outta that one...:-)
Semper Fi
They are actually becoming a very organized force. They have pulled off some pretty elaborate attacks. I remember one several years ago that killed numerous 82nd airborne troops. These people may be misguided and ‘simple’; but, they are organized and fight like zealots. The fact that they had 250!!! men together is indicative of a high degree of organization.
In an ambush, you should expect a fifty percent loss. Really, the only way to survive in this situaion, and not get surrounded and over-run, is to refuse to be supressed...that means keep your head up even though the ‘mutton heads’ are spraying bullets....that takes bravery. I’m ex-army; but, I have to admit that the marines have been amazing in the war on terror. Anyway, the enemy may be idiots; but, that just makes them more dangerous in a fire-fight.
These kids are so brave and I do not use the word “kids” in a disrespectful way. I say it more in amazement. They are very young and incredibly brave.
I wonder what the marksman was using. The M-16 is too lightweight for Afghanistan. They have been using a modified M-14 with a scope. This should be more standard issue. .223 is not good in those canyons.

God bless our U.S. Marines, nothing and nobody like them in the whole wide world.
Oh, I want to watch!! :-)
Did anyone learn what happened to the Marine who took down the protester in front of the Marine recruiting office in California? Wonder if the pantywaist protested again??
“no serious injuries”
I got a kick out of that one. After the lead humvee gets rpg’d, injured guys, one knocked unconcious, etc. and they first have to fight just so they can rescue the injured.
“No LT - I was only knocked out for a little bit, let’s go get ‘em.” Or - “Its not THAT many fragments, and I’ve pretty much stopped bleeding, lets kill those SOB’s”
God bless our troops.
First time I ever said Semper Fi to a Dead Corpse.
Nevertheless, Semper Fi Marine! My guess is you remember the fable about God resting on Sunday, the seventh day and admitting one mistake. He forgot to issue Himself a Dress Blues uniform. No blasphemy intended.
Major Samuel Nicholas (Continental Marines) must have smiled when he saw the report from Afghanistan.
10:1 ratio? 230+ terrorists vs. 30 Marines?
Well, those terrorist bastards were definitely outnumbered.
