"People may be listening to television experts talk about economic bailouts and the platforms of political candidates, but they apparently have little idea what our basic economic and political institutions are," said Dr. Richard Brake, ISI's director of University Stewardship. "Our study raises significant questions about whether citizens who voted in this year's landmark presidential election really understand how our system of representative democracy works."

And what do you know, you get a marxist/socialist/communist President! Yippee!

I took it yesterday-me, a product of public school with an abysmal history/civics education. (Our hippy neighbor across the street was one of my civics teachers-the guy was more worried about holding the water fountain for the mini-skirted Spanish teacher down the hall- he eventually left his wife and kids and ran off with her, but I digress)

Got an 85. Some of the questions were a bit tricky, but overall it was not that hard.

In one of Bork's books (Slouching Toward Gomorrah, I believe), he said that he came across the final exam from 1910 or so that high schoolers had to take and pass in order to earn their degree. He said he had difficulty answering many of the questions.

It's a good thing our government-run school system has so much focus on sex ed and multiculturalism.

If your planned intent were to destroy a nation deliberately, you couldn't devise a better method than our current government-run school system. Its dumbed-down ‘graduates’ are the ones who go on to pop culture, the MSM, and a host of other careers that influence public opinion.

90.91% (missed 3).

Should have recognized the line from the Gettysburg Address.
Didn’t know FDR was that ignorant of the constitution.
Not well versed in Plato and Socrates.

Scored 100% Honestly, though, if not for the multiple choice format, would have missed 3 or 4.

hmmm....I said to decrease taxes and decrease spending and missed it.

I missed the one about Douglas vs. Lincoln too.

It’s been so long since my school days I don’t even remember if I was taught that one or not.

Taking a few trips to Gettysburgh with the kids helped me out though.

I missed four questions, mostly on economic issues, but, STUPIDLY, I missed the CinC question!!! I didn’t name the President! Dumb. :(

I blame it on not having had a coffee yet this a.m. and being too eager to finish and see what my score was. :)

Thanks for posting the test!

Elected officials scored even lower than the general public with an average score of 44 percent.

* 30 percent of elected officials do not know that "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" are the inalienable rights referred to in the Declaration of Independence; and 20 percent falsely believe that the Electoral College "was established to supervise the first presidential debates."

OUTRAGE!

I went to the website and took the five question test. 100 percent right. Then I went to the American Civics org website and took the 33 question test. 84 percent correct. I missed most on finances which I fail to see what that has to do with civics. Also question # 17 - what was Sputnik - I fail to see what that has to do with American civics.

I listened to Mark Levin talking about this. As he is reading the article he catches a misspelling by the writer. Amazing! The writer is discussing how poorly Americans know their basic history and he and his editor let pass a misspelled word in a national magazine.
