Conservative radio buffoon Rush Limbaugh thinks of himself as an ace strategist and so he thought he was being extremely clever back in March when he launched "Operation Chaos" an effort to undermine frontrunner Barack Obama's chances in the fall election by prolonging the Democratic primary season and forcing Obama to deplete his resources early. Rushbo, accordingly, urged his conservative Republican listeners to take advantage of open primaries in many thats that allow non-Democrats to participate and vote for Hilary Clinton in order to drag the race out as long as possible. Brilliant eh? And how mischievous!
Unfortunately the Limbaugh his plan was too clever by half and has backfired.
DNC chair Howard Dean has talked about the importance of a "50 state strategy" for the past four years and Obama embraced the idea but it was the prolonged primary season that allowed Obama to implement it by virtue of necessity as the never ending race forced him to recruit ground organizers and campaign in red states that are usually flyover states for the Dems such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Indiana. When the fall campaign came around, polls showed Obama competitive in states that the Democrats had long written off as a result of his spring campaigning and allowed him to use ground organizations left over from the primary season in order to keeps those states competitive forcing McCain to campaign in states which should have been sure things for him. Moreover, Obama won North Carolina and Indiana and thereby assured himself the presidency thanks, in no small part, to Rush Limbaugh's efforts.
I agree. I’ve been here 3 years and have never posted a vanity.
Blacks and libs in that triangle... It was McCain. Obama had a FORTUNE to spend, and hired crooks to work everywhere. MCcain didn’t try hard enough on top of the worst financial crisis since the Depression. It was an uphill battle.
You really don't want to make any friends here do you?
Agree 100%.
Trolls are cheap entertainment.
You see them as a bug...I see them as a feature.
Four points isn’t all that great a margin. Dole lost by nine.
Why are you still here, troll???
Why should Rush address anything .. This is just another liberal trying to smear Rush.
And .. what’s so “mischeivious” about changing your registration to vote in a democrat primary - THE DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN REGISTERING AS REPUBLICANS AND VOTING IN OUR PRIMARIES FOR YEARS.
How else did we end up with McCain ..??
Rush's value and strength is articulating Republican/conservative principles. He became the most listened-to talk show host in the world not because he presumed to tell people what to think, but because he was reinforcing and validating what tens of millions of Americans already thought, but weren't hearing anywhere in the media.
Therefore, when Rush declined to endorse or favor a primary candidate, what it told me was that Rush had too much respect for me, and all the rest of his listeners, as individuals to presume to tell them who to vote for.
Rush tells us what to vote for, not who.
When he talks about conservative principle the way he has for the past 10 years now, he is teaching listeners how to fish. If he started telling us who, rather than what, to vote for, he'd be giving us fish.
He is living by the conservative principle he promotes.
My respect for Rush soared during the primaries, especially when I heard him reinforce and validate my own thoughts after the Republican primary debate: that "there was only one conservative on that stage," and that was Fred Thompson.
Mark Steyn penned a beautiful column praising Thompson. I heard Mark Levin refer to Thompson as "my guy." For me, three of five of pundits I admire most confirmed clearly, loudly, and plainly for me that I was on the right track in backing Thompson. It made me feel good.
I've listened to and read Rush enough to know that he despises McCain and regards him as an enemy of conservatism. The restraint shown by Rush during this campaign must have taken near super-human resolve and discipline on his part -- professionalism, if you will. And that professionalism springs from respect that Rush has for me -- and for you, and for all of his listeners.
Rush is a gift from God and unique.
Here's your pic:
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Viking Kitty/ZOT ping list!. . . don't be shy.
Sheesh, it’s about time that trash got taken out!
Then Clinton didn’t have a mandate. He didn’t even break 48% either time.
Don’t debate with this maple lefty. Go home to the tundra and leave us be.
The mods let this one stay way too long, imo.
This one was risky, far too many FReepers would agree with her.
What is wrong with me???
