The word among GOP insiders here in Georgia is that Newt Gingrich is considering throwing his name in the hat to be the next Chairman for the RNC....

Bravo! The voice of reason. Thank you.
Why does the image of Phil Hartman doing his impression of Ross Perot's running mate, Stockdale keep popping up in my mind after your comment?
What you said, and:
Even though he is not the RNC chair, Newt should sound the alarm right now, to get some help for the Republicans who are facing runoffs, need volunteers to observe recounts, etc. He has enough personal cachet to do this...and it would demonstrate that he has the best interests of the party at heart.
This will also mean that a heart to heart talk should be had with the senators involved, reminding them that the only RINOs (sp) in Washington will, hence forth, live at the National Zoo. Lee Atwater could get that message across—Newt (or whomever is chosen) must communicate that message to the minority.
What was the 11th commandment (according to Ronald Reagan)?
I like Newt! The conservative movement fell apart when he was driven from the speakership.(by evil, traitorous bastard liberals and weak kneed, spaghetti spined Republicans)
Newt would be great as RNC chair. Count me in!!
This is the perfect job for him.
I think we need new blood. Been there done that nad he has some baggage.
Hartman’s Stockdale impression was hysterical! Here is a link to a clip of one of his skits where he did Stockdale:

Sounds OK to me - for God’s sake, maybe more conservatives should infiltrate the whacko left agenda and temper it down.
What you say about not waiting for the ‘perfect conservative’ makes sense. I might be a little leery of Newt for some of his past actions or associates but there is no fresh young face leaping at the door to take on party leadership. His explanation about why he made the ad with Pelosi makes sense and we have to realize administering a litmus test that would confirm conservative sainthood could result in no one soon in place starting the rebuilding process which needs to start NOW.
Get him back in the ring and you'll see the old pitbull Newt.
Newt speaks well to the media and has access to all the MSM period. He can not be bullied and can articulate our point of view. In his book, “Real Change”, he outlined several issues that McCain should have embraced, energy independence, education (too bad the economy crashed, and too bad McCain said the fundamentals of the economy is strong).
For my fellow FReepers who don't like Newt, remember we have more in common with him than low profile folks who can't articulate and have no credible path to the media.
This may be the beginning of our way back.
Newt would be great as RNC chairman. Just kick Mitt Romney out of the party.
They will dump on Him as they are doing on Sarah, So go Newt
LMAO!!
Since you brought up SNL, as soon as Newt was mentioned earlier today, I flashed on Chris Farley's Newt impression and had to find it. Chris and Newt.
I can’t believe some of the stupid comments in this thread.
Republicans should definitely consider what he has to say but he would be a symbol to the left. A bogeyman.
This one was the best where Perot tried to lose Stockdale in the wilderness.
I generally like Newts ideas, but I think he might have too much baggage.
Let me ask: has Newt mentored any bright young conservative minds whove been in the political world and proven themselves??
We really do need new faces. That is why Sarah and Bobby are so appealingyoung, different people who are walking the walk AND talking the talk.
No offense to the mobs here who love Newt. Of course, Newt wouldnt be running for office either....

+1
Certainly wouldn’t make things worse. Boy, is this bleak. I think they need Newt. That is a step in the right direction. He definitely isn’t one of the “My Esteemed Colleague” kind of guy.
