If you live in an apartment, townhouse, condo, etc. and share walls with another household, I would definitely opt for the scattergun (shotgun). While you should always be conscious of what's behind your target, nobody can see through walls. A shotgun takes away a lot of the concern you'd have about killing a neighbor in bed while you were trying to exorcise the demon in your house, and increases your probability of achieving a solid, rapidly incapacitating hit under stress.
