I saw the headline this morning on Drudge that Exxon posted record profits of something like 14.8 billion in the third quarter.
What about their record tax payments???
I really am getting aggravated by the reporting of Exxon's profits whithout the mention of Exxon's tax payments as well. I am tired of hearing people bash ExxonMobil and the oil industry. Besides the fact that many million people are shareholders of this industry and make a profit on it, they also employ many thousands, and also provide billions in tax revenue.
When I got home I happened to catch the same story on Fox News (Sheppard Smith, I think) and to their credit they did include the numbers on the taxes paid by Exxon in the same quarter. I think it was 32.5 billion, over two times as much revenue as the profit.
Then in just the past hour I heard O'Reilly report the same story and he completely left out any mention of the taxes Exxon paid and made them out to be bad guys and told everyone to buy as little gas as possible.
Many times I like the work of O'Reilly but in this instance I think that he is doing a great disservice to his viewers. But.....At least Fox News with Sheppard Smith did report it Fair and Balanced.
The next time you hear someone whine about the profits of oil companies like ExxonMobil then be sure to point out how much they are paying for all of this massive government that democrats want and to how many millions of Americans either benefit from holding a share in the company of are employed because of them.
tv morons will not see or hear about this.
Rush made this point today.
McCain needs another “get out of the conservative doghouse free” card again. I read he was blasting Obama for supporting the record oil profits, but I don’t think he mentioned anything about the amount of single record taxes paid.
I read somewhere that ExxonMobil pays more taxes than the bottom 50% of all taxpayers in the United States. Why won’t pols discuss that?
Cavuto took O’Reilly to the woodshed earlier in the year, when he started bashing big oil. Bill O’s a pin head himself.
Double taxation--what a deal! Let's have more of it.
Exxon Mobile puts the cost of taxes into every gallon they sell. Its the consumer who pays the taxes.
Biden says “those profits belong to the people”...
“I read somewhere that ExxonMobil pays more taxes than the bottom 50% of all taxpayers in the United States. Why wont pols discuss that?”
Because the obvious story line for most news stations is to report on ExxonMobil as being what it is that is wrong with the country instead of reporting on it being the success story that it is.
Isnt it funny how the leftwing wants to grow government programs but then lashes out against those who have been the most successful at financing government programs.
Considering the bottom 40% pay virtually nothing, there is a good chance the you pay more taxes than 50% of the population.
Wrong... The taxes you are paying are consumption taxes tacked onto the final cost per gallon of gas. The oil companies never see that money.
That is the bottom 50% cumulatively.
it never ceases to amaze me how the democrats keep a hold over their slaves with this b.s.
i actually know union women that watch oprah and ba ba waters, et al, and they believe the
“hate big oil” mantra.
Which translates based on 2007 data at all households (cumulatively everyone) under $48,200 per year.
Don’t buy their gas then. One of Exxon’s most important payments is to their millions of investors. The biggest corporation in the world should make a profit, and their profit is only 8 to 10 percent. Of course consumers have to pay more because of taxes. That’s the governments doing, not Exxon.
So what’s the number Exxon pays in taxes?
Biden the FN idiot, those profits DO belong to the people, the ones who hold shares!! My Uncle is a flaming lib who, retired at 50 has over 1 million in investment properties and has 2 homes. He raged on and on about the oil companies. I asked him where did he think the money in his pension fund came from?
We are a bunch of idiots in this country, so easily led and fooled. I think it is great that Exxon Mobile had record profits. The majority of Exxon Mobile is owned by the share holders, regular folks. The employees and execs, own only a small percentage of the shares.
