I Just Voted Republican in a Blue State: Why My Vote Matters (copiousdissent)
Copious Dissent Blog ^ | October 22, 2008 | Devil's Advocate

I just voted straight Republican ticket, including John McCain and Sarah Palin, in one of the bluest States in the Union. Some of you may be saying, "Why bother?" The fact of the matter is that my vote matters in this election more than other races in the past. Here is why:

Imagine if John McCain wins the electoral college, but loses the popular vote. The ramifications of that happening, which is very possible, would be devastating. There really would be riots in the streets. People and the media would think McCain was an illegitimate President. That is why my vote today is important; it mitigates the damage that will result from a close election, or future tensions between Americans.

My vote today ensures that if John McCain wins, he wins with the popular vote as well. I advise all you Republicans, and people Right of Center, in blue States to please get out and vote this election. Don't stay home because you think your vote does not count. It does!

Please consider the future of this Country; we need a mandate, not a one-state swing in the electoral college.

maybe the term ‘blue’, in this case, is blue, meaning the loss of Sarah as governor!

I live in the McCain side of Tennessee.

Voter fraud issues in Nashville aside, McCain’s up by like 20 in Tennessee and I don’t see that turning around anytime soon.

TN is “in the bag” as it were and I can’t wait to vote.

The media have painted a picture that only a few states are relevant.

This is not the case.

The reality is that if no Republicans vote in the states they are “guaranteed” to take, then the Democrats will win those states. Conversely, if Dems stay home because they think it’s a slam dunk in their “blue” state, and Republicans come out in force, then the state turns red.

Nothing is set in stone here.

Vote.

Wherever you are in this country...VOTE like your freedom depends on it.

Because it probably does.

Even if McCain/Palin win in a landslide, your vote is important.

I did an early vote in Illinois - I so hoped someone would poll me but alas. You will notice there was no option to vote for a straight ticket...you need to advance every screen. Lots of local offices with Republicans running unopposed.

I also live in Illinois. People around here are scared of an Obama presidency. I don’t know anyone that is voting for Obama. I do live in the Chicago suburbs though. I cannot wait to go to the polls on election day and cast my vote
even if it only counts towards the popular vote.

I’m in DuPage ...very red county but turning bluer...on my street there are a dozen McCain signs and 1 Obama sign.

I’m In Will and I have only seen 1 Obama sign in the surrounding burbs, I was kind of surprised by that.

...there is a very obvious lack of Obama signs compared to the previous elections where Gore and Kerry signs were EVERYWHERE...

Very strange - any ideas what’s going on? Are people embarrassed to admit openly that they support Obama/Biden? Sure we’ve seen the crowds but there is anonymity in showing up to a huge rally. And, they aren’t ALL voting for him.

I have heard that people were getting bused in from other states to those rallys. Half the crowd is most likely ACORN! lol

The Al Smith dinner comedy shtick was revealing...when asked about his weaknesses, Obama joked, “I guess I’m too awesome.” That was not only not funny, but it shows that his grandeous self image is spot on. As he stands in front of his large rallies I feel like he’s saying...”OK, here’s 100k, now give me a million...no number of people screaming my name will satisfy me.”

I think he has narcissistic personality disorder.

I agree, but how can you question “The One?” I cannot
believe how blindly those people are following him. I have thought about it and I know that I would absolutely support
a black conservative man for POTUS, but the alarm bells are
ringing loudly on this guy. I really do fear for the future of this country. I will be turning off my television for
the next 4 years if he wins. He makes my skin crawl.

I’d vote for Michael Steele in a second. Obama makes my skin crawl also...ever since Michelle took the microphone on the victory stage when Barack won the U.S. Senate seat - he stood there blushingly accepting all her gushing and raving to all how right she was to have married “this man” - barf.

Yes, I really like Steele. I voted for Keys in 2004. I couldn’t bring myself to vote for the “socialist” back then.
Michelle makes me ill even more than he does. This election is really stressing me out! lol
